SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/14/2025 10:37 AM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-1“The
Correcting Scripture”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 Timothy
3:16d
Message of the verse: “for correction”
I want to begin this SD with the Greek word (Epanorthosis) (correction), and this is
the only time that word is used in the New Testament and it refers to the
restoration of something to its original and proper condition. Now in its secular Greek literature it was
used of setting upright and object that had fallen down and of helping a person
back on his feet after stumbling, and of course this makes me think of older people
who at times have a tendency of falling down.
Now after exposing and condemning false belief and sinful conduct in
believers, Scripture then builds them up through it divine correction, and this
is certainly something that is needed so that a person can then grow in grace
and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Now
correction is Scripture’s positive provision for those who accept its negative
reproof. Earlier this morning I posted
on my other blog the introduction to Psalm 51, a Psalm written by David after
his sin with Bathsheba and her husband Uriah.
David certainly accepted the negative words that Nathan the prophet
spoke to Him about his sin. Peter writes
the following in 1 Peter 2:1-3 “1 Therefore, putting
aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like
newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow
in respect to salvation, 3 if
you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. Peter adds verse three
so that his readers can make sure that they truly are children of God through
the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
John
MacArthur writes “Perhaps the most extensive praise of God’s Word in all of
Scripture is found in Psalm 119. Among
the many well-known verses in that beautiful tribute to God and His Word, the
unknown psalmist wrote, ‘How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word. With all my heart I have sought Thee; do not
let me wander from Thy commandments. Thy
word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee’ (Ps.
119:9-11). As I look at these verses it
makes me think of our two grandsons who have just graduated from high school,
and will soon be on their own as they begin college this fall.
MacArthur
goes on to write by quoting 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins,’ the Lord
assures us through John, ‘He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteous’ (1 John 1:9). ‘And now I commend you to God and to the word
of His grace,’ Paul told the Ephesian elders, ‘which is able to build you up
and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified’ (Acts
20:32). When submitted to the Lord’s marvelous grace our areas of greatest
weakness can, through correction, become areas of greatest strength.”
Spiritual
Meaning for my Life Today: I realize that the Lord knows everything
about me that can be known, more than I know about myself, and for that I am
thankful because He knows me better than I know myself and still loves me
because of His calling me to Salvation which came from His Holy Spirit, and the
payment was provided through the crucifixion of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
on the cross. It was over 51 years ago
that this happened to me and I will be forever thankful to the Lord for taking
my place on the cross in order to save my soul.
My Steps of
Faith for Today: I trust that the Lord will keep my heart and
mind clean and when I sin that He will prompt me into confessing my sin to Him
so my heart can remain pure.
