My Worship Time Focus:
PT-2 The Scene
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference:
Revelation 20:11-12a
Message of the
verses: “11 Then I saw a great white
throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away,
and no place was found for them. 12 And
I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne”
We want to begin with looking at a phrase from verse
eleven “from whose presence earth and heaven fled away.” After describing the vision of the Judge John
writes these words and I have to admit they are a bit hard to understand. I suppose that we actually have looked at the
meaning of these words in earlier Spiritual Diaries as we looked at the chronology
of the events from the book of Revelation.
First we saw what the Lord said to the seven churches after John
described what Christ looked like, then we saw a picture of the Rapture of the
church. Next from verses 6-19 we looked
at the events that happened in the Tribulation period, followed by what we
studied first in this 20th chapter of Revelation as John writes
about the Millennial kingdom. Next what
we are looking at is the Great white Throne Judgments as we are in the midst of
looking at that, but afterwards the entire universe will be what we will call “uncreated,”
and Peter describes how this will happen in the third chapter of his second
letter. To go on with our outline we
will next see the city of the New Jerusalem, and then talk about what will
happen when all believers go into the eternal state in chapter 22. So there we have a little look at what the
phrase means that earth and heaven fled away from the One who was sitting on
His throne.
John goes on to say of the earth and heaven that “no
place was found for them,” and we have to understand the reason why God is
going to uncreate the universe that He has created, and that all has to do with
sin as all of it was tainted by sin and so since He is making His final
judgment against sinners who have not trusted Christ, and has already judged
Satan, the Antichrist, and the false prophet He can then get rid of the present
heavens and earth and the entire universe and begin again with glorified
believers. John MacArthur quotes Barnhouse
who wrote “There is to be an end of the material heavens and earth which we
know. It is not that they are to be
purified and rehabilitated, but that the reverse of creation is to take
place. They are to be uncreated. As they came from nothing at the word of God,
they are to be sucked bock into nothingness by the same word of God.”
As stated earlier we said that the description of this is
written in 2 Peter 3:10-13 and with that, since it is Sunday we will quit after
this quote and take more of this subject up in our next SD.
“10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in
which the heavens will
pass away with a
roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth
and its works will be burned up. 11 Since
all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you
to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12
looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which
the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with
intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which
righteousness dwells.”
Spiritual meaning
for my life today: Peter asks what
sort of people should we be. The kind of
people that bring glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.
My Steps of Faith for Today: Be the person who brings glory to the Lord.
Answer to yesterday’s Bible
question: “He was presented in the
temple, according to Jewish law,” (Luke 2:22-39).
Today’s Bible
question: “Who said ‘Yes, Lord: You know
that I love You.’”
Answer in our next SD.
