Christ's Testimony Always Agreed with God (John 3:33)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 2/1/2016 11:11 AM

My Worship Time                                      Focus:  Christ’s Testimony Always Agreed with God

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                            Reference:  John 3:33

Message of the verses:  “33 “He who has received His testimony has set his seal to this, that God is true.”  Just a reminder as to what we have been looking at in these last few SD’s, and that is that John lists five reasons for his disciples, and for all who read this to accept the absolute supremacy of Jesus Christ.  Now I am speaking of John the Baptist here, but it was the apostle John who is quoting John the Baptist here and we once again need to remember why it was that John wrote this gospel as explained by him in John 20:31 “30  Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31  but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.  The third reason that shows that Jesus Christ is the very Son of God is that His testimony always agrees with that of God.  One more reminder of a verse in John chapter fourteen where we read the following that goes along with what we are studying in this chapter and that is “Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ’Show us the Father’?”

We ended our last SD by stating that John the Baptist was lamenting over the fact that not many will receive Jesus Christ as their Savior, Lord, and Messiah, and even though this is true there will be exceptions, as there are those who do accept His testimony, as they believe in Him for eternal life.  MacArthur writes “In the ancient world, people set their seal to something (often with a signet ring; Gen. 41:42; Est. 3:10, 12; 8:2, 8, 10; Dan. 6:17) as a sign of complete acceptance and approval.  In today’s jargon, they signed off on it.  Those who have ‘received’ Christ’s ‘testimony thereby certify their belief that ‘God is true’ when He speaks through His Son, as always (cf. John 17:17; Rom. 3:4; Titus 1:2).”  “"Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth (John 17:17).”  “Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge’ (Rom. 3:4 NIV).”  “In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago, (Titus 1:2).”

How is it that we cannot always believe human teachers and that we can always believe what Jesus Christ has said, and what is written in His Word?  I believe that the answer can be summed up in one word “flesh.”  Yes all humans have that old flesh, as some call it an old nature, and that is the part that causes us to be flawed even though all believers have the Holy Spirit in them, which is something we will get more into in our next SD.  Jesus Christ, the very Son of God, the One who came so that we can see what the Father is like can never, ever do anything wrong unlike us even though we have been born from above.  While Jesus was on earth He spoke in complete harmony with the Father as seen in a number of times when we read that the Father spoke stating “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him” (Matt. 17:5).

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It is wonderful to have something in my life that never changes, that I can always depend on, that is the Lord Jesus Christ.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Trust the unchangeable Lord to guide the surgeon’s hands as my son-in-law is having surgery today.

Answer to yesterday’s Bible question:  “All Ten” (Luke 17:12-17).

Today’s Bible question:  “Who said ‘I am the voice of the one crying in the wilderness?’”

Answer in our next SD.
