My Worship Time Focus:
The Lord Stood in Power
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Habakkuk
3:6-7
Message of
the verses: “6 He stood and surveyed the earth; He looked
and startled the nations. Yes, the perpetual mountains were shattered, The
ancient hills collapsed. His
ways are everlasting. 7 I saw the tents of Cushan under distress, The
tent curtains of the land of Midian were trembling.”
When generals fight they push forward or fall back,
yet we see in verse sis that God just stands there and surveys the earth, and
it is because He owns it all for He is the One who created it. By measuring something you are showing that
you own it, and that is what the Lord was doing according to Habakkuk. Dr. Wiersbe writes “It’s also a preliminary
step to action, as though the Lord were surveying the situation and estimating
how much power it would take to execute His wrath on the nations. The Lord revealed His power when He shook the
earth at Sinai before He delivered His Law to Israel (Ex. 19:18; Heb.
12:18021).”
Now we have to remember that Habakkuk is writing
about the exodus from Egypt by Israel, which showed the great power of the Lord
in doing those ten miracles in order to destroy Egypt. With said we have to realize that those nations
that were lying between Egypt and Canaan typified the nations of Cushan and
Midian which were two peoples that lived near Edom. Dr. Wiersbe writes “As the news of the exodus
from Egypt spread quickly through the nations, the people were terribly
frightened and wondered what would happen to them when Israel arrived on the
scene (Ex. 15:14-16; 23:27; Deut. 2:25; Josh. 2:8-11).” Let’s take a look at Joshua 2:8-11 to show
that these nations were frightened of Israel because the feared God: “8 Now before they lay down, she came up to
them on the roof, 9 and said to the men,
"I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the terror of you has fallen on us,
and that all the
inhabitants of the land have melted away before you. 10 "For we
have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you
came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were
beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 "When we heard it, our hearts melted and
no courage remained in any man any longer because of you; for the LORD your
God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”
