The Conquest of the Nations (Zech. 14:12-15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/8/2016 7:03 PM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The Conquest of the Nations

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Zechariah 14:12-15

Message of the verses:  “12  Now this will be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth. 13 It will come about in that day that a great panic from the LORD will fall on them; and they will seize one another’s hand, and the hand of one will be lifted against the hand of another. 14 Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered, gold and silver and garments in great abundance. 15 So also like this plague will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey and all the cattle that will be in those camps.”

We have been talking about all the good things that will happen when the Lord Jesus Christ returns to earth from heaven, and there are many good things that will happen, but now we must look at what is going to happen to the unbelievers on that day and the first thing we will look at is a deadly plague which is seen in verse twelve.  I have heard in the past that verse twelve speaks of a nuclear bomb going off, but I am not sure that is what will happen at this point in time, however the end result will be the killing of many unbelievers, those who had a chance to turn to Christ during the Millennial kingdom but did not take advantage of it.  In his sermon John MacArthur mentions that it is God who gives live and perhaps it is God who takes their lives away in an instant at this time.

Let us look at verse thirteen to see the next thing that will happen and what we see here reminds us of the story that is found in the book of Judges and it tells about Gideon whom God used to get rid of the Medianites as they began to kill each other because of a great confusion that came over them.  The words “great panic” is seen in verse thirteen of Zechariah 14.

Next we look at verse 14 which shows that the people of Judah will have some superhuman strength as they are doing battle against the nations during this war that is going on, the battle of Armageddon.  Now remember that not all of the things that are found in the OT prophets are in the order that they will happen when the events take place.  Now later on in verse fourteen we see that as the nations are counting their booty in the middle of Jerusalem as we talked about earlier, then the tides will turn and all of the booty will be given to the Lord’s people.

Next we look at the plague found in verse fifteen:   “15 So also like this plague will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey and all the cattle that will be in those camps.”  This plague has to do with even the horses and the other animals that are in the camps at that day.  We will look at the last section in our next SD on Zechariah, “The Character of the Kingdom” in verses 16-21 which will conclude our study in Zechariah.
