SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/23/2016 10:44 AM
My Worship Time Focus:
The Presence of the Truth
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: John 14:25-26
Message of the verses: “25 "These things I have spoken to you
while abiding with you. 26 "But the
Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach
you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
When I
think of this verse I think of what John the apostle has written and when he
has written it. Most scholars believe that
John was around 90 years old or may be even older when he wrote the letters we
now find in the New Testament. They were
all written around 90 AD and for Him to remember every detail that are included
in the gospel of John some sixty plus years after they happened had to be
because of what we find in these verses as we read that the Holy Spirit would
be the One who would bring to his remembrance all that Jesus said. We can also look at what Peter wrote that goes
along with these verses: “20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy
of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of
human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” Paul also writes about Scripture in his
writings “16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness so that the man of God
may be adequate, equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17).” The Scriptures are God Breathed and therefore
are true and always will be true.
Jesus is
not only going to leave them without a source of comfort as the Holy Spirit
will be their comforter, but will not leave them without the truth. The Holy Spirit is that source of Truth as we
saw in verse 17 “that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides
with you and will be in you.” When a
person is saved through the work of the Holy Spirit, He reveals truth to that
person as He convicts that person of sin and how to be saved. The Holy Spirit, the author of Truth, uses
that Truth to bring about the salvation of an unbeliever, that is that Jesus
Christ died for their sins and desires a relationship with them through the person
of the Holy Spirit as He uses the Word of God in their lives. Let’s look at 1 Tim. 2:3-4 “3 This is good
and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be
saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
As we look
at the disciples lives before the Day of Pentecost we can see that they did not
understand all the things that Jesus was teaching them, but after the Holy
Spirit came their lives were much different as the Holy Spirit caused them to
understand the things that they could not understand before He came, things
that Jesus was teaching them while He was with them, but they had difficulty in
understanding them.
John MacArthur writes “The Spirit is
the believer’s resident truth teacher (1 John 2:20, 27); by illuminating God’s
Word to their understanding, He thus grants Christians the knowledge of God that
leads them to spiritual maturity.”
It is my
practice to put on the spiritual armor most everyday and the first piece that I
put on is the belt of Truth and when I was learning about the different pieces
of the spiritual armor I learned that Paul was chained to a Roman soldier who
had armor on and so Paul looked at the armor that he had on and made spiritual
application to the pieces of his armor.
The belt that they wore was one of the, if not the most important part
of the armor because different pieces were attached to it. If believers cannot know and understand the
Truth of Scripture then they can have great trouble with their spiritual lives. Satan tries to tell us lies because he is the
father of lies and so it is of the upmost importance for believers to know the
truth.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: I desire to know the truth so that when I
write my Spiritual Diaries which go onto my blogs that I will not put out
anything that is not truth, that Satan can use to cause others to stumble.
My Steps of Faith for
Today: Continue to trust the Lord
that through His Spirit will teach me the truth as I study His Word.
Memory verses for the week:
(Romans 6:5-6) “5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness
of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6
knowing this that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that the body
of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;”
Answer to yesterday’s Bible question: “In a whirwind” (2 Kings 2:1-11).
Today’s Bible question:
“To whom was Paul’s gospel hid?”
Answer in our next SD.
