PT-1 "Rejection of Those Who Are Contemptuous" (Matt. 10:13b-15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/3/2021 8:28 AM

My Worship Time                              Focus: PT-1 “Rejection of Those Who Are Contemptuous”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                            Reference:  Matthew 10:13b-15

Message of the verses:  but if it is not worthy, let your greeting of peace return to you. 14 “And whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 “Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.”

It is Sunday morning the 3rd of October 2121 and it is the first time that I have had to teach a Sunday school class in the morning for probably around a year as we have been doing our Sunday school in the evening, but started about three weeks ago to do it in the morning.  The problem was that on the 9th of last month I contracted the Covid virus that is going around the world and so for three weeks I have been unable to teach our class.  With all of this being said I don’t think that this SD will be as long as what I usually write.

In today’s SD we begin looking at the last principle for ministry as it shows the reverse side of the previous one, namely, that of not spending undue time on those who persist in rejecting the gospel.  I realize that I have prayed for many people on my prayer list for many years who have not as yet come to Christ, and will continue doing so as long as I am on this earth.

Jesus told the twelve apostles who were on this short term missions trip that if a house was “not worthy let your greeting of peace return to you,” which was an Oriental expression signifying withdrawal of favor or blessing, so that will help us understand better what the Lord is saying here.  MacArthur adds “It is not that such a household would have a blessing and then lose it, but that the offer of peace was never received and is therefore withdrawn.  The greatest blessing of God is worthless for a person who will not accept it.  God’s gospel is offered to all the world, and it has power to save all the world, but it is powerless to save or help even a single person who will not have Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (cf. John 5:40).”  “and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.”

John warns of the same principle to false teachers who come to us in 2 John 10-11, and with that we will end this SD for today.  “10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 11  for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.”
