PT-2 "THe Infinite Reality" (Matt. 22:53-54)

SPIRITIUAL DIARY FOR 9/17/2023 7:53 AM

My Worship Time                                                                    Focus:  PT-2 “The Infinite Reality”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  Matthew 22:43-45

Message of the verses:  43 He said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying, 44  ‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT THINE ENEMIES BENEATH THY FEET"’? 45 “If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?’”

We learned yesterday that first of all that Jesus was declaring that was speaking under the influence of the Holy Spirit, and not today second every Jew recognized Psalm 110 as being written by David and as being one of the clearest messianic passages in all of the Old Testament.  This being stated there could be no argument—and there was none by Jesus’ opponents—that David was speaking here about the Messiah, the second Lord mentioned in verse 1.  The first Lord in the Hebrew text is Yahweh, whereas the second is Adonay. The idea is The Lord (Yahweh) said to David’s Lord (Adonay), Sit at My right hand, until I put Thine enemies beneath Thy feet.”  In other words, David addressed the Messiah as his Lord.

There is a third thing here that we need to go over, and this is most importantly, Jesus was declaring that the of Messiah’s deity, and yes this is most important.  Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, David had declared that God told the Messiah to sit at His (Gods) right hand, and this was a place that was recognized by Jews to be a designation of coequal rank and authority.  MacArthur writes “The verb being sit in the original text indicates continuous sitting in the place of exaltation.  God was going to bring the Messiah to a place of equality with Himself in honor, power, and glory.”  This certainly all new for the Jewish people as they nave though that their Messiah was God incarnate because they did not believe in the trinity, so eventually their leaders would do something to this Messianic Psalm to show the Jews that it was not really saying what it said.  They do that with Isaiah 53 too.  If it shows them something that they probably know is true, and yet can’t believe it is true then they have to do something to change the meaning of it.  However that makes no difference, because the truth still remains the truth.

Sunday mornings are shorter SD’s as I have to go over my Sunday school lesson for this morning, and today it is on the end of the third vision of Zechariah, and then the introduction to the fourth vision, something that has taken me a lot of time in trying to understand it.
