Admonition (Zech. 2:6-9)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 4/25/2016 6:44 PM

My Worship Time                                                                                          Focus:  Admonition

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Zech. 2:6-9

Message of the verses:  “6 "Ho there! Flee from the land of the north," declares the LORD, "for I have dispersed you as the four winds of the heavens," declares the LORD. 7 “Ho, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the daughter of Babylon." 8 For thus says the LORD of hosts, "After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye. 9 “For behold, I will wave My hand over them so that they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me.”

In these verses God is telling the Jews to get out of Babylon, which was now under the Persian rule, as He wanted them to go back and rebuild the city walls of Jerusalem and also to rebuild the city.  When you look at the prophecies of Daniel chapter two and also chapter seven you can see that there were four nations that would come into power, which will greatly affect the Jewish people, something we have already discussed, and so if the Jews stayed in Babylon, now ruled by the Persians, the Persians would be defeated by the Greeks and so the Jews would then still be in Babylon and in trouble.  Now the Lord did have people in Babylon who were serving Him there like, Daniel, Ester, Mordecia and also Nehemiah who were doing things that the Lord wanted done, and so they were not under obligation to leave, but the common people should leave their houses and businesses and return to Jerusalem where they would be doing the work of the Lord.

Dr. Wiersbe writes “The Jews are very precious to God; He called them ‘the apple [pupil] of His eye’ (Zech. 2:8; Deut 32:10; Psalm 17:8).  The pupil is the tiny opening in the iris that lets in the light, and this is a very delicate and important area of that vital organ.  Hence, anything dear and precious is like the pupil of the eye.”  Dr. Wiersbe adds the following in an endnote:  “The word ‘pupil’ comes from the Latin papilla, ‘a tiny doll,’ referring to the small reflection you see of yourself when you look into another’s eyes.  The Hebrew word for ‘apple’ (pupil) in Deuteronomy 32:10 is literally ‘little man.’
