The Believers (Mal. 3:16-18)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/4/2016 7:27 PM

My Worship Time                                                                                          Focus:  The Believers

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Malachi 3:16-18

Message of the verses:  “16 Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name. 17 “They will be Mine," says the LORD of hosts, "on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him." 18 So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.”

We are looking in today’s SD at the second sub-point under the main point entitled “Despising God’s Service” from the outline in Dr. Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on Malachi.

There was a remnant among the remnant as there were some true believers which is who Malachi is talking about in these three remaining verses of Malachi chapter three.  As we look at verse sixteen we see on two occasions the words that tell us that these true believers feared the Lord and Dr. Wiersbe tells us “which means they held Him in awe and worshiped Him as the Lord Almighty.  The met together, not to complain but to encourage and edify each other.  They spoke about the Lord and they weren’t afraid for Him to hear what they were saying.”

This was probably a very small group but we can see that the Lord certainly noticed them as He notices all of those who are His.  These people were not wasting their time as they worshiped the Lord, for they were investing in eternity.  They may have even come under some persecution, but what they were doing was worshiping and serving the Lord.

These people were in stark contrast of the priests who were supposed to teach the people, but they did not even know the difference between one sacrifice and another:  “the difference between the holy and the profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean (Ezekiel 44:23b).”

There may be someone who reads this SD and they are a part of a small group of believers, they may be discouraged thinking that nothing is getting done for the Lord, but just as the Lord noticed this small group who were worshiping Him and ministering to each other He is doing the same for you and your small group.  Trust the Lord to show you the things that you can do to serve Him and then do it for little becomes much when you place it in the hands of the Lord.
