MORNING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/26/2026

“JOHN’S COMMITMENT TO TRUTH”
This morning I was working on my
morning Spiritual Diary when all the power went out and what I had written was
lost and so I will attempt to write what I was writing this morning at this
time. John MacArthur continues his
comments on the apostle John in this section.
“John’s passionate concern for the
truth permeates his writings, he uses the word ‘truth’ forty-six times. For John, divine truth was supremely embodied
in the Lord Jesus Christ; He was full of truth (John 1:14) and in Him God’s salvation
truth was fully revealed (v. 17).” “17 For the law was given through Moses; grace
and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
Those who profess to know Christ but do not obey Him are devoid of the
truth (1 John 2:4; cf. 1:6, 8). Nothing
brought John greater joy than to hear of Christians walking in the truth (3
John 4; cf. v. 3; 2 John 4).
“His deep concern for the truth
caused John to be black and white; to see things in stark contrast; to express
himself in absolutes and opposites. He
set light against darkness (John 1:5; 1 John 2:8-9), life against death (John
5:24; 1 John 3:14), the kingdom of God against the kingdom of the devil (John
3:3, 5; 8:44), the children of God against the children of Satan (1 John 3:10),
the judgment of the righteous against the judgment of the wicked (John 5:24;
Rev. 20:11-15), the resurrection of life against the resurrection of judgment
(John 5:29), receiving Christ against rejecting Him (John 1:11-12), fruit
against fruitlessness (John 15:2), obedience against disobedience (John
3:36). People either walk in the light,
or in the darkness (John 12:35; 1 John 1:7), and are either of God, or of the
world (1 John 2:15). Those born of God
cannot sin (1 John 3:9), and those who reject Christ do not have God (John 5:23;
1 John 3:9), and those who reject Christ do not have God (John 5:23; 1 John
2:23), those who do good are of God, but those who do evil have not seen God (3
John 11).” Now we will look at these
verses in the order that they are found in this paragraph.
(John 1:5; 1 John 2:8-9)
“5 ¶ The light shines in the darkness, and the
darkness has not overcome it.”
“8 At the same time, it is a new commandment
that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness
is passing away and the true light is already shining. 9 Whoever says he is in the light and hates his
brother is still in darkness.”
(John 5:24; 1 John 3:14)
“24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my
word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into
judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
“14 ¶ We know that we have passed out of death into
life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.”
(John 3:3, 5; 8:44)
“3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to
you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom God.’”
“5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to
you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of
God.”
“44 You are of your father the devil, and your
will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and
does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he
speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
(1 John 3:10)
“10 By this it is evident who are the children of
God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice
righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.”
(John 5:24; Rev. 20:11-15)
“24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my
word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into
judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
“11 ¶ Then I saw a great white throne and him who
was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was
found for them. 12 And I saw the dead,
great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then
another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by
what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it,
Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each
one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the
lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in
the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
(John 5:29)
29 and come out, those who have done good to the
resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of
judgment.”
(John 1:11-12)
“11 He came to his own, and his own people did
not receive him. 12 But to all who did
receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of
God,”
(John 15:2)
“2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit
he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may
bear more fruit.”
(John 3:36)
“36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life;
whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains
on him.”
(John 12:35; 1 John 1:7)
“35 So Jesus said to them, "The light is
among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest
darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he
is going.”
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son
cleanses us from all sin.”
(1 John 2:15)
“15 Do not love the world or the things in the
world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
(1 John 3:9)
“9 No one born of God makes a practice of
sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he
has been born of God.”
(John 5:23; 1 John 2:23)
“23 that all may honor the Son, just as they
honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who
sent him.”
“23 No one who denies the Son has the Father.
Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.”
(3 John 11)
11 Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate
good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.”
Spiritual
Meaning for my Life today: In MacArthur’s sermon on these verse from his
study on John he talked about two things that should be in the life of
Christians; love, and truth. Some believers
all they speak about is love and some all they demonstrate is truth, and that
can be harsh, so it is best to demonstrate both love and truth in your walk
with the Lord.
My
Steps of Faith for Today: Demonstrate love in truth in my
walk with the Lord each day, which can only be done with the aid of the Holy
Spirit in my life.
