My Worship Time Focus: The
Influence of Righteousness PT-1
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Studies in
Proverbs
Message of the
verses: I must say that this will probably
be a short SD because I am a bit under the weather. We will begin looking at the third main point
in Dr. Wiersbe commentary on the book of Proverbs and see how far we get.
Those to whom are righteousness are righteous because God
has blessed them and just as Abraham was called by God and given His
righteousness he was to bless others with what the Lord had given to them.
Genesis 12:2 states “And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you,
And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing.” Genesis 12:1-3 are the call that God gave to
Abraham, I know his name at that time was Abram, but God did change it to
Abraham, and when Steven was speaking of him he called him Abraham. Let us now look at Psalm 1:3, “He will be
like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its
season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.” This verse speaks of a person who has been
blessed by the Lord and because of that blessing he is like a tree that will
become fruitful because it was planted by streams of water which gives it what
it needs to grow and produce fruit so others can eat of it.
Proverbs 11:28 & 30 state: “He who trusts in his riches will fall, But
the righteous will flourish like the green leaf. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
And he who is wise wins souls.” Verse
thirty is a favorite of mine.
Dr. Wiersbe says the following at the end of his
introductory writing to this third main point.
“Let’s trace the circles of influence that radiate from the lives of men
and women of God who walk on His paths.
They are blessed in
their character. Dr. Wiersbe states
that believers will take their character to heaven with them, and I suppose
that this is not something that I have thought about before, but should think
much about. We know that when we get to
heaven we will have a body that is similar to the one Jesus Christ has, the one
that the apostles saw and the one that the Apostle John saw at the beginning of
the book of Revelations. Dr. Wiersbe
states We’ll all have glorified bodies like that of our Lord and we’ll all be
happy in His presence, but we will not all immediately have the same capacity
for appreciating spiritual things. Every
vessel will be filled, but not all vessels will be the same size. Those who have walked closely with their Lord
will be delighted to see Him (2Tim. 4:8), but others will be ‘ashamed before
Him at His coming’ (1John 2:28).”
Let’s look at a couple of verses that show us that the
righteous desire the very best from the Lord and the Lord wants to give it to
them: “What the wicked fears will come
upon him, But the desire of the righteous will be granted (Pr. 10:24).” “The desire of the righteous is only good,
But the expectation of the wicked is wrath (Pr. 11:23).” Psalm 37:4-6 teaches us the following, “4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of
your heart. 5 Commit your way to
the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your
judgment as the noonday.”
When we truly walk with the Lord we will be developing a
better spiritual perception, a godly appetite and the ability to choose the
best, which is seen in Philippians 1:9-11.
This is one of the blessed byproducts of a holy walk with God. “9 ¶
And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real
knowledge and all discernment, 10 so
that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and
blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the
fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of
God.” (Phil. 1:9-11) The more we become like Christ the more we
will not want the entertainment of the world.
We have been over many times in the past how we are to
get godly character, how to grow in the Lord and that is we must feed upon the
Word of God. “Give instruction to a wise
man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his
learning (Pr. 9:9).” “Do not reprove a
scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you (Pr.
9:8).”
A righteousness man not only treats people right, but
will also treat his animals right,” A righteous man cares for the needs of his
animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” (Pr. 12:10 NIV)
