PT-2 Divine Judgment Declared (Obad. 1:7-19)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/7/2015 11:42 PM

My Worship Time                                                            Focus:  PT-2 Divine Judgment Declared

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference: Obadiah 1:7-9

Message of the verses:  We continue to look at what kind of judgment that God promises to send to the nation of Edom.  We looked at two reasons in or last SD and this evening we look at two more reasons.

Thirdly we see from verse seven “7 “All the men allied with you Will send you forth to the border, And the men at peace with you Will deceive you and overpower you. They who eat your bread Will set an ambush for you. (There is no understanding in him,’” that the Lord was going to work so that those in alliance would be against them.  Even though Edom lived up in the rocks away from most people and in a place where it was hard to get to they felt that they still needed allies, but as Dr. Wiersbe writes “While pretending to be friends, their allies would turn into traitors, set a trap, and catch Edom by surprise.”

Dr. Wiersbe continues “God also warned that Edom’s wisdom would be destroyed (Obad. 9).  The people of the east were known for their wisdom (1 Kings 4:30), and this included the Edomites.  Located as they were on the great trade routes, the leaders of Edom could get news and views from many nations…Without wisdom, the leaders of Edom couldn’t make the right decisions, and the result would be confusion.”  “8 “Will I not on that day," declares the LORD, "Destroy wise men from Edom And understanding from the mountain of Esau?”

Finally the fourth reason that Obadiah announced was the Edom’s army would be defeated as seen in verse nine:  “9  "Then your mighty men will be dismayed, O Teman, So that everyone may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.”  We have just looked at God taking away wisdom from them and this included those leaders in the army, so they could not understand how to move their troops.

In our next SD on Obadiah we will look at what God was going to do to Edom which comes from verses 10-16.
