Their Ruthless Bloodshed (Nahum 3:1-3)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/25/2016 11:06 PM

My Worship Time                                                                       Focus:  Their Ruthless Bloodshed

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Nahum 3:1-3

Message of the verses:  “1 Woe to the bloody city, completely full of lies and pillage; Her prey never departs. 2 The noise of the whip, The noise of the rattling of the wheel, Galloping horses And bounding chariots! 3 Horsemen charging, Swords flashing, spears gleaming, Many slain, a mass of corpses, And countless dead bodies- They stumble over the dead bodies!”

Woe “A declaration of ‘woe’ on man is frequently found in scripture. It is especially pronounced on those who have had privileges and have not answered to them. In the Prophets there are many woes against Israel and Judah, and also against the nations which had to do with Israel. The Lord when on earth pronounced woes upon those who should have been the leaders of His people. The Revelation shows that God’s ‘woes’ will fall with mighty power on those denounced.”  This quote comes from my Online Bible Program.

I want to look at several verses that speak of what the Lord has to say about shedding innocent blood, which is what the Assyrians were good at as they would actually line up dead bodies like cord wood to show other nations what could happen to them if they attack Assyria. Let’s first look at Deuteronomy 19:11-12 “11 “But if there is a man who hates his neighbor and lies in wait for him and rises up against him and strikes him so that he dies, and he flees to one of these cities, 12 then the elders of his city shall send and take him from there and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.”  Moses is talking about the cities of refuge in the first part of verse eleven.  Next we look at 2 Kings 21:16 “Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; besides his sin with which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the LORD.”  2 Kings 24:4 “and also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; and the LORD would not forgive.”  Psalm 106:38 “And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with the blood.”  Proverbs 6:16-17 “16 There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: 17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood.”  Isaiah 59:7 “Their feet run to evil, And they hasten to shed innocent blood; Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity, Devastation and destruction are in their highways.”

Dr. Wiersbe concludes “Depraved dictators who authorize the heartless slaying o innocent victims will someday answer to God for their crimes against Him and humanity.”  We have men in our world today who fit right into this category and have had them for a long time.  Think of Hitler, Stalin and now we have to think of ISIS who are doing these types of things.
