PT-2 "The Goal of the Spirit's Revelation" (John 16:13b-15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/23/2017 9:34 AM

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  PT-2 “The Goal of the Spirit’s Revelation”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  John 16:13b-15

Message of the verses:  “for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 “All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”

We continue looking at the goal of the Spirit’s revelation in this SD.  The Spirit of God will reveal Christ’s glory on the pages of Scripture and will use that to mold believers into the image of the Lord Jesus Christ.  “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit (2 Cor. 3:18).”  “26  In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27  and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.  29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30  and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified (Romans 8:26-30).”

John MacArthur writes “It is the Spirit’s purpose to glorify Christ in revelation, how can it be any less our purpose to glorify Christ in proclamation?”

The last thing we will look at from this section is to see that it is the witness of the Holy Spirit that ultimately testifies to the truthfulness of Scripture.  We have already learned that the Bible is without error and also that the Word of God is truth.  Let me give a simple example of this that I hope will be helpful and that is if we add two plus two we get four.  Now perhaps there are some who do not believe this is true and so they would try and change the answer and say that two plus two equals five.  Now they may believe this is the right answer but it is not the right answer.  People today distort the truth of the Word of God so it fits what they desire to do.  There are many in our world today who say that abortion is the right of the woman to have, and yet God tells us in His Word that all life is precious in His sight and He also tells us in the 13th verse of the 20th chapter of Exodus:  "You shall not murder.”  So no matter what people try to do to shows that the Bible is wrong it is still right just like two plus two are always four.  It is the purpose of the Holy Spirit to show us that the Word of God is truth and sometimes it takes us a while to be taught that certain things in the Word of God are truth.  In our Sunday school class yesterday there was a woman who talked about her husband witnessing to a man and he was close to receive Christ but did not believe that it was not in the will of God for a woman to have an abortion so he would not accept the forgiveness that Christ offers.  We agreed that prayer must be lifted up so that this man will understand the truth of what the Bible has to say about this and it is the Holy Spirit who can show this man the truth for we in and of our self cannot do that, we can only give out the message.

John MacArthur concludes this section and this chapter by writing “The true believer loves the Word of God (cf. John 8:31-32; 14:15; 2 Thess. 2:10; 1 John 5:2-3) and believes it because of the work of the Spirit (1 Cor. 2:4-5, 14-16; cf. Matt. 16:16-17; John 6:64-70; Rom. 8:5-8; Gal. 1:15-16).  Evidences confirm and validate that divine gift of confidence in Holy Scripture.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The following comes from the devotional Bible that I read “Thank God for the incomprehensible riches that are yours in Christ. – Pray that you might always approach His Word with a submissive and teachable heart.”  I might add that I also must pray that the Holy Spirit will open my eyes to the truth that is found in His Word.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I desire to have the Spirit of God give me a teachable spirit.

Answer to yesterday’s Bible question:  “Sinai” (Exodus 31:18).

Today’s Bible question:  “What was the name of Ruth’s son?”

Answer in our next SD.
