in Relation to the Unseen World
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Colossians
1:16b
Message of the
verse: “whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities.”
These three words “thrones, dominions, and rulers refer
to the various ranks of angels. The
error that was trying to take over the Colossian church, at least a part of it
was that Jesus Christ was an angel a creation of God. The truth is that Jesus Christ created all
the angels as He created all things. Let
us look at Hebrews 1:7-8 “7 And of the angels He says: "Who makes His
angels spirits And His ministers a flame of fire." 8 But to the Son He
says: "Your throne, O
God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of
Your Kingdom (NKJV).” In Ephesians 1:21
we learn that Jesus has been exalted “far above all rule and authority and
power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but
also in the one to come.” The result of
this is seen in Philippians 2:10 “so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those
who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” Peter similarly says “who [Christ] is at the
right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and
powers had been subjected
to Him.”
The Bible is pure truth and it states that Jesus Christ
is not an angel, but He is the One who is the Creator of all things seen. John MacArthur closes this short section by
writing “Jesus’ relation to the unseen world, like His relation to the visible
universe, proves He is God.”
