Defection of False Believers (Matthew 24:10-13)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/12/2023 9:16 AM

My Worship Time                                                               Focus:  “Defection of False Believers”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  Matthew 24:10-13

Message of the verses:  10 “And at that time many will fall away and will deliver up one another and hate one another. 11 “And many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many. 12 “And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. 13 “But the one who endures to the end, he shall be saved.”

Today’s SD will be a short one as what we are looking at is really an introduction to three sub-points which will take a fairly long time to go through.

Now what we are looking at is the fifth birth pain and it is a consequence of the fourth birth pain.  Now remember Jesus is talking about what will be going on in the tribulation period, that seven year period which begins shortly after the Rapture of the Church.  It is actually the 70th week of Daniel’s prophecy found in Daniel chapter nine and verses 24-27.  Another thing that we need to remember is that when the Rapture of the Church happens the Holy Spirit in the way that He ministered in the Church age will also be gone so that means that evil will be much more rampant during this time.  I guess you could say that it will be much more difficult a time to be living in than what we are living in now a days.

Now as persecution intensifies in the end times and believers begin to be arrested, hated, and martyred for the sake of Christ, many who are supposed Christians will defect.  Although they will have had an outward identification with the Lord, they will prove by their desertion that they were never really belonged to Him.  When the persecution becomes too severe, these false believers will show their true colors and desert as they forsake Christ and join fellow unbelievers in assailing God’s people.

Now here is the quotation from MacArthur’s commentary that will tell us where we will be going as we look further into these verses.  “Jesus mentions three reasons for their defection:  the price will be too high, the deception of false teachers will be too convincing, and sin will be too attractive.”  I suppose that these kind of things are going on in the Church age, but one thing for sure if the Holy Spirit of God gives a person an effectual call which they say yes to they are true believers.
