EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 8/09/2025 7:30 PM
My Worship Time Focus: “Fruitless Autumn Trees”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Jude 12c
Message of the verse: “autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted;”
Now as we think about autumn we think about the time when farmers and gardeners expect to harvest the final crops of the year. I guess that autumn can be a great time of the year if you are living where it does not get too cold in a hurry, but that is not the case for me. Now if nothing comes, then the farmers must endure disappointment and hardship through the winter. The next spring they can begin again the painstaking process of fertilizing, planting, watering, and waiting for the crop to mature. Now with this in mind, the phrase autumn trees without fruit pictures the disappointing reality of a barren harvest. Now you must know that there will follow a spiritual point here, and you can be sure that the word “apostate” will be involved in it.
Jude continues using these different natural phenomena to bring his points across to show that apostates are not to be trusted or followed. Jude likened the apostates’ empty profession and utter lack of spiritual life to a barren harvest. He called them doubly dead; and John MacArthur writes after that “first, they are fruitless because there is no life in them; second, they are uprooted, dead at the very core. They are like trees that have come out of the ground, disconnected from the life-giving source of water and nutrients. As Jesus said of the Pharisees, ‘Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted’ (Matt. 15:13; cf. 3:10; 7:17-20; 13:6). Such people produce no life-changing fruit, neither in themselves nor in others.”
Now speaking of life giving fruit I have a little story to tell, a really good story. It goes like this: I have spoken of the fact that my wife had serious surgery on the last day of April this year to remove female organs which had cancer in them. Now we have chosen to receive care from a doctor who does not really use conventional practices. Diet is an important part of this process and the doctor recommended us to go to a certain grocery store to pick up items that he recommends as he has an affiliation with this store. Well this afternoon we went to meet with a young lady at this store to help us out in looking for these certain healthy foods. This went well as we now have a good idea to find what my wife should be eating. This young lady and I had a chance to talk about the blogs that I write and so I had a great time witnessing to her about salvation, end times and other things pertaining to the Word of God. Recently I found a card which had my blog address on it as I did not know I had any left, and so I was able to give it to her, and more importantly begin to pray for her. Have you ever heard of the term “Devine Appointment?” Well the Lord gave me one this afternoon, and nothing can make me feel better!!
