Message of the verses: “"8 I will whistle for them to gather
them together, For I have redeemed them; And they will be as numerous as they
were before. 9 “When I scatter them among the peoples, They will remember Me in
far countries, And they with their children will live and come back. 10 “I will
bring them back from the land of Egypt And gather them from Assyria; And I will
bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon Until no room can be found for
them. 11 "And they will pass through the sea of distress And He will
strike the waves in the sea, So that all the depths of the Nile will dry up;
And the pride of Assyria will be brought down And the scepter of Egypt will
depart. 12 “And I will strengthen them in the LORD, And in His name they will
walk," declares the LORD.”
God says
that He is going to whistle for those of Israel who belong to Him, so let’s
look at another passage similar to this one:
“He will also lift up a standard to the distant nation, And will whistle
for it from the ends of the earth; And behold, it will come with speed swiftly
(Isa. 5:26).” I guess that I never
thought that God was One who whistled, but it looks like that is what He will
do. Now only is He going to whistle for
them, but He goes on to tells us that He will increase their number, and
remember He is talking about the redeemed as verse 8 speaks of. He says that the children of Israel will be
numerous again, something like when they went down to Egypt there were only 70,
and four hundred years later there were around 2-3 million, so that is great
increasing, and it will happen again, so this has to continue to talk about the
Millennial Kingdom.
We may need
to go over again what will happen at the end times to better understand how
these verses fit into place. The next
thing to happen on the prophetic calendar is the Rapture of the Church which ends
the church age. A short time after that
the antichrist will come on the scene and sign a seven year peace treaty with
Israel. This begins the seven year
period of time known as the Tribulation period.
This will be a time when ¾ of the world’s population will die in wars
and at the end of it will come the battle of Armageddon which will take place
in Israel. At the end of the seven years
at the battle of Armageddon the Lord Jesus Christ will return to earth to end
this war, put the devil, the false prophet and the antichrist into the
pit. He will then separate the sheep and
the goats, the sheep will go into the kingdom and the goats into the pit
too. The Jews who go into the kingdom
will begin to increase like the time when they first went into Egypt and by the
end of the Millennial Kingdom there will be perhaps millions and millions of
Jews alive on planet earth. No number is
given so we don’t know exactly how many will be alive, but we do know from this
portion of Zechariah that there will be many.
We have
seen in this chapter what is going to happen to Israel, and it is an exciting
future for them even though for some of them who will not accept the Lord Jesus
Christ as their Savior and Lord, and also their Messiah the future is not so
pleasant. We have mentioned that many
will die during the tribulation period, but in the end many more will be born
and live as the kingdom age will be the best part of what has ever happened on
planet earth other than when Christ came to die on the cross for our sins so
all those who accept this will have eternal life. In our world today everyone is always talking
about world peace, but it will not come until the Prince of Peace returns at
the end of the tribulation period and sets up His kingdom.
We will next move into the 11th chapter of
Zechariah, Lord Willing.
