PT-2 Intro to “Calm in the Storm” (Luke 8:22-25)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 9/18/2026 6:45 PM

My Worship Time                                                         Focus:  PT-2 Intro to “Calm in the Storm”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                 Reference:  Luke 8:22-25

Message of the verses:  “Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side of the land.”  So they launched out.  But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake, and they beg an to be swamped and to be in danger. They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!”  And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm.  And He said to them, “Where is your faith?”  They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obeyed Him?”

I did not get my morning SD done, and so I will pick up from where I left of last night by quoting from MacArthur’s commentary and also quoting the many verses he makes reference to, and so this will take longer this way.

“Even nature will change.  Natural enemies will live together in peace; ‘the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and they young lion and the fatling together; and the little boy will lead them….The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den’(Isa. 11:6, 8).  Carnivorous animals will eat straw like oxen (Isa. 11:7).  Crops will flourish (Isa. 30:23-25; Joel 2:21-27), even in what is now barren desert (Isa. 35:1-2; 35:6-7).  In short, paradise lost will become paradise regained.”

(Isa. 11:6, 8)

“6  The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.”

“8  The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.”

(Isa. 11:7)

“7  The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.”

(Isa. 30:23-25; Joel 2:21-27)

“23  And he will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and bread, the produce of the ground, which will be rich and plenteous. In that day your livestock will graze in large pastures, 24  and the oxen and the donkeys that work the ground will eat seasoned fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork. 25  And on every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.”

“21  "Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice, for the LORD has done great things! 22  Fear not, you beasts of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness are green; the tree bears its fruit; the fig tree and vine give their full yield. 23  "Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before. 24  "The threshing floors shall be full of grain; the vats shall overflow with wine and oil. 25  I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. 26  "You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. 27  You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame.”

(Isa. 35:1-2; 35:6-7)

“1 ¶  The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; 2  it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, the majesty of our God.”

“6  then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7  the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down, the grass shall become reeds and rushes.”

“The power required to redeem lost sinners and restore the cursed earth is beyond human ability or comprehension; it belongs only to God.  In Psalm 62:11David said, ‘Power belongs to God.’  Job expressed that same truth poetically when he exclaimed, ‘The thunder of His power who can understand?’  (Job 26:14 MKJV; cf. 36:22).”

(Job 36:22)

“22  Behold, God is exalted in his power; who is a teacher like him?”

“Psalm 79:11 and Nahum 1:3 speak of the greatness of God’s power, while Psalms 29:1-10 and 68:32-35 describe it.”

(Psalm 79:11)

“11  Let the groans of the prisoners come before you; according to your great power, preserve those doomed to die!”

(Nahum 1:3)

“3  The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and the LORD will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.”

(Psalm 29:1-10)

“1 ¶  «A Psalm of David.» Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 2  Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. 3  The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. 5  The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon. 6  He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. 7  The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire. 8  The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9  The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare, and in his temple all cry, "Glory!" 10  The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever.”

(Ps. 68:32-35)

“32 ¶  O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; sing praises to the Lord, Selah 33  to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice. 34  Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. 35  Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel— he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!”

“So clear is the evidence of God’s power that it leaves unrepentant sinners without excuse for their rejection of Him (Rom. 1:20).”

(Rom. 1:20)

“20  For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

“God’s power is revealed in His sovereign rule over all things (Ps.66:7), raising Christ (2 Cor. 13:4) and believers (1 Cor. 6:14) from the dead, saving lost sinners (Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 1:18), rescuing the righteous (Neh. 1:10; Ps. 106:8), and destroying the wicked (Rom. 9:22).”

(Ps.66:7)

“7  who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations— let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah”

(2 Cor. 13:4)

“4  For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.”

(1 Cor. 6:14)

“14  And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.”

(Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 1:18)

“16 ¶  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”

“18  For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

(Neh. 1:10; Ps. 106:8)

“10  They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.”

“8  Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make known his mighty power.”

(Rom. 9:22)

“22  What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,”
