My Worship Time Focus: Messiah will Proclaim Peace
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zechariah 9:10-13
Message of the verses: “10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
And the horse from Jerusalem; And the bow of war will be cut off. And He will
speak peace to the nations; And His dominion will be from sea to sea, And from
the River to the ends of the earth. 11 As for you also, because of the blood of
My covenant with you, I have set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12 Return to the stronghold, O prisoners who
have the hope; This very day I am declaring that I will restore double to you. 13
For I will bend Judah as My bow, I will fill the bow with Ephraim. And I will
stir up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece; And I will make you
like a warrior’s sword.”
We begin
looking at the second main point from Dr. Wiersbe’s outline which he entitles “Messiah’s
conquests at His Second Advent” and it covers chapter nine and verse ten to
chapter ten and verse twelve. He writes the
following in his introductory info: “The
entire age of the church fits between 9:9 and 9:10, just as it does between
Isaiah 9:6 and 7 and after the comma in Isaiah 61:2. The prophet is now writing about what will
happen when Jesus comes to earth to defeat His enemies and establish His
kingdom. At His first advent, He rode a
humble donkey; but at His second advent, He will ride a white horse and lead
the armies of heaven (Rev. 19:11-21).”
Many people
thought and said that after the first world war that because of the cruelty of
it that it was the war to end all wars, but not so, for we continue to have war
after war, and we will until our Lord Jesus Christ returns from heaven to bring
about an everlasting peace, a peace that will be so pronounced that even the
animals will get along with each other and with mankind. We see this in verse ten as it says “and He
will speak peace to the nations.” The
word speak means that He will proclaim peace to the nations. When the Lord returns all weapons will be
done away with and His rule will be universal from sea to sea and everything in
between.
Dr. Wiersbe
writes “Zechariah 12:1-9 teaches that there will be one last battle before
Jesus establishes His kingdom, as the Gentile armies attack Jerusalem. But the Lord will use Judah as His bow and
Ephraim as His arrow and defeat all His enemies (9:13). He will call all His exiled people back from the
many nations to which they’ve been scattered during this age, and they’ll
return to their ‘stronghold,’ which can mean both God their Refuge and the
stronghold of Mount Zion. In their land
ruled over by their Messiah, the Jews will receive double blessing in return
for all their suffering.”
That is the
kind of kingdom that all believers are looking forward to.
