My Worship Time Focus: But Messiah will turn the ‘sheep’ into
war-horses!
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zechariah 10:3
Message of the verses: “3 "My anger is kindled against the
shepherds, And I will punish the male goats; For the LORD of hosts has visited
His flock, the house of Judah, And will make them like His majestic horse in
battle. 4 “From them will come the cornerstone, From them
the tent peg, From
them the bow of battle,
From them every ruler, all of them together.”
Dr. Wiersbe
points out that there are several striking images of the Messiah in this fourth
verse. The cornerstone is the stone in
the foundation that will hold the building in place, and we have seen in other
places, especially quotations from the OT spoken of in the NT that Jesus Christ
is the cornerstone. Next we look at the
tent peg, and this is the peg that is in the center of the tents that were
used, and I suppose are still used by nomads who were moving around and living
in tents. This holds up the tent and
pictures Messiah as the one on whom burdens can be put on. Next we look at the battle bow which
represents the victorious Warrior, the one who never loses a battle. This Ruler will come out of Judah, for that
is where Jacob tells us He will come out of in Genesis 49:10. All the rulers of Judah came forth from David
who came from the tribe of Judah and was promised from God that he will never
not have a ruler on the throne who did not come from David’s line, and Jesus
Christ came from David’s line, but Mary and Joseph came from the line of
David.
Dr. Wiersbe
writes “The emphasis in the rest of the paragraph is on ‘strength’ and ‘mighty
men’ (Zech. 10:5-7, 12). Because the
Lord will be with the Jews, they will trample their enemies down like mud in
the streets, and they will go from victory to victory in the strength of the
Lord. God will also call His scattered
sheep back home from the many countries where they’ve been scattered. Just as a shepherd can whistle or play a tune
on a pipe and call his flock together, so the Lord will gather His people. It will be like a second ‘exodus’ when they
pass through the ‘sea of affliction’ to return to the Lord and to their land.”
That will
be a great day for the nation of Israel as they will be regathered back into
their land and then eventually will aid in the Messiah’s rule of His millennial
kingdom that has been promised from the Lord.
Dr. Wiersbe adds “But this same God can give the same blessings to His
church today. We’re a scattered people,
divided and sometimes distant from each other, but the Lord can unite us in
Christ and bring us together. We’re
fighting battles against the enemy, but the Lord can strengthen us and turn His
helpless sheep into victorious war-horses.
How much He is willing to do for us, if only we would admit our failures
and unbelief and turn to Him for help.”
