Jesus is Equal to God in His Judgment from John 5:22

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 3/6/2016 9:11 PM

My Worship Time                                                   Focus:  Jesus is Equal to God in His Judgment

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  John 5:22

Message of the verses:  “22 “For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,”

I have to say first of all that this will be a short SD as there is not a lot of things that can be said about this verse, but we will do our best to make it come alive to all.

Not only does the Son give life to those that He chooses, but in the last judgment he will also be the One judging those who come to Him.  Let us look a John 3:18-19 and 12:48 for more references:  “18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.”  Remember that these are the words from John the Baptist.  “48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.”  I guess that when I was studying the book of Revelation last year that it took me a while to understand that Jesus Christ will be the One sitting on the throne at the Great White Throne Judgment, and for good reasons as we see here, and I believe that no one will be able to see God the Father in heaven.

We are looking at these sub-titles in this section of John to show that Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh and has the same attributes and does the same things that the Father does, and judgment is one of those things.  God has the right to judge the world, since it was He who made it, and because He sent His Son into the world to pay for the sins of those who will accept His offer of Salvation, He has the right to judge those who do not accept Him, and He is in perfect harmony with the Father in doing this.  What we are saying is that Jesus Christ’s judgment will be the very same as His Father’s judgment.  John MacArthur writes “Although judgment was not the primary purpose of Christ’s first coming to earth (3:17; 12:47), it remains the inescapable final result of rejecting the salvation He offers (3:18).”

Let us look at 2 Thessalonians to show the future judgments carried out by our Lord:  “7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8).”  The following partial verse from Acts shows why this will happen:  “He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead’ (Acts 17:31).”  John MacArthur concludes this section with these words “On that final, terrible day of judgment, those who have rejected Jesus will hear Him say, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness’ (Matt. 7:23).”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I am thankful that while Jesus Christ was on the cross and God the Father turned off the lights so that He could judge His Son on my behalf, and now the important things is to tell others of this gracious act.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  To get this Word out to others so that they can come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their own Savior and Lord.

Answer to yesterday’s Bible question:  “He sought to kill Moses” (Exodus 2:15).

Today’s Bible question:  “What three things were in the Holy Place?”

Answer in our next SD.
