PT-2 of The Day of the Lord and the Gentiles from Zephaniah 2:8-11

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 3/6/2016 9:42 PM

My Worship Time                                            Focus: PT-2 The Day of the Lord and the Gentiles

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:   Zephaniah 2:8-11

Message of the verses:  “8 "I have heard the taunting of Moab And the revilings of the sons of Ammon, With which they have taunted My people And become arrogant against their territory. 9  "Therefore, as I live," declares the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, "Surely Moab will be like Sodom And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah-A place possessed by nettles and salt pits, And a perpetual desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them And the remainder of My nation will inherit them." 10 This they will have in return for their pride, because they have taunted and become arrogant against the people of the LORD of hosts. 11 The LORD will be terrifying to them, for He will starve all the gods of the earth; and all the coastlands of the nations will bow down to Him, everyone from his own place.”

Now as we go through our commentary on these verses take note that in his outline about this section Warren Wiersbe entitles this sub-section:  “Moab and Ammon,” as the judgment from the Lord comes on these two nations.

I have mentioned the origins of these two nations in earlier SD’s but I believe because of the importance of it we will go over it again.  In the book of Genesis chapter 19:30-38 we see the beginnings of these two nations and the word that is used for how they began in today’s language would be incestuous as Lot’s two daughters got their father drunk and slept with him, one, one night, and another the next night.  After listening to Ken Ham and what he has to say about cases like this I have learned that incest is a rather new word.  I once had a pastor who told us in the morning service that he was going to tell us where Cain got his wife from in the evening service.  His answer was that Cain got his wife from his father-in-law.  When God made man on the last day of creation and later formed Eve from Adam’s rib they were perfect and remained that way until they sinned.  God told them that they would die if they ate of the fruit of the tree of good and evil, and immediately they died spiritually and later on died physically.  Adam lived over 900 years and he and Eve were the parents of all who live today on planet earth.  Ken Ham says in the message that I listened from him that we are all relatives who live on planet earth and so when we marry someone we are marrying a relative, now a far off relative, but none the less a relative, so because the gene pool of people closer to Adam and Eve was much better than now there was no problem physically for Lot to have children with his daughters, now spiritually this is a different issue.

Warren Wiersbe says that “these two arrogant nations would end up like Sodom and Gomorrah, wiped off the face of the earth (Gen. 19; note the connection here with Lot).  Now more would they insult either the nation of Israel or the God of Israel.  (See Amos 1:13-2:3 for further evidence of the wickedness and inhumanity of these two nations.)  Once again, the prophet promised that the Jews would occupy the land of their enemies when the kingdom is established (see also Ezek. 30:4-5).”  I do find it ironic that the prophet mentions both Sodom and Gomorrah on how these two nations would be judged, when it was Lot who was forced to leave Sodom right before God destroyed it, and it was probably because of the immorality that was found there that his daughters had little problem in doing what they did.
