SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 3/7/2016 10:08 PM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-3 The Day of the Lord and the Gentiles
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zephaniah 2:12
Message of the verses: “12 "You also, O Ethiopians, will be
slain by My sword."”
I suppose
that this will be one of the shortest Spiritual Diaries that I have done, but
as I follow the outline of Dr. Wiersbe this is where we are at.
First let
us look at different times we see the word Ethiopian or Cust that are found in
the Word of God. “Ge 10:7 The sons of
Cush were Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of
Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. Ge 10:8 Now Cush became the father of Nimrod; he
became a mighty one on the earth.” It is
good to see the first time that a word is used in the Bible and these two
verses show us that. Isa 45:14 Thus says the LORD, "The products of
Egypt and the merchandise of Cush And the Sabeans, men of stature, Will come
over to you and will be yours; They will walk behind you, they will come over
in chains And will bow down to you; They will make supplication to you:
’Surely, God is with you, and there is none else, No other God.’"” It seems that when the word Cush is used that
Egypt is also used in the verses many times, and I suppose for good reason as
Cush and Ethiopia are the same country and sometimes interchanged depending
which translation one is looking at.
Now I want to quote from the book
of Ezekiel where Ethiopia used “Eze 38:5 Persia, Ethiopia and Put with them,
all of them with shield and helmet,” and this verse is in the section where
Ezekiel is prophesying about a war that will take place in the end times and
among the nations that will bring about a collation against Israel is Ethiopia,
or Cust. Now we will look and see what
Dr. Wiersbe has to say about this verse from his commentary: “This nation was located in the upper Nile
region. Some students think the
reference includes Egypt, another long time enemy of the Jews. It was Nebuchadnezzar and the swords of the
Babylonian soldiers that conquered this ancient nation (Ezekiel 30:4-5).” I guess that since it is mentioned in Ezekiel
chapter 38 as I have written of that perhaps this can play into the end times
judgment that the Lord will have on the Gentile nations.
