EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/13-2025 7:25 PM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-6 “God’s Supernatural Revelation”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 Peter 1:19-21
Message of the verses: “19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”
I continue looking at these verses, and last evening I added many of the verses that I found in John MacArthur’s commentary and that are why I did not get too far into these verses, but I really think that it was beneficial to all who read it.
MacArthur writes “From considering the end of Scripture, when it completely rules the perfected heart, Peter went back to the start of Scripture—its divine inspiration. As Paul wrote, ‘All Scripture is inspired by God’ (2 Tim. 3:16); therefore no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation. The phrase is a matter of translates ginetai, which more precisely means ‘comes into being,’ ‘originates,’ or ‘arises.’ No portion of the holy writings, Old Testament or New, came into existence in the manner all false prophecies did (cf. Jer. 14:14; 23:32; Ezek. 13:2).” Again I will quote these verses in the order that they are listed above, beginning with Jer. 14:14.
14 Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility and the deception of their own minds.
32 "Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams," declares the LORD, "and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit," declares the LORD.
2 “Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy from their own inspiration, ‘Listen to the word of the LORD!
MacArthur goes on: “For example, the prophet Jeremiah explained how God viewed the false prophets of his time:
16 Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; They speak a vision of their own imagination, Not from the mouth of the LORD. 17 “They keep saying to those who despise Me, ‘The LORD has said, "You will have peace"’; And as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, They say, ‘Calamity will not come upon you.’ 18 “But who has stood in the council of the LORD, That he should see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and listened? 19 “Behold, the storm of the LORD has gone forth in wrath, Even a whirling tempest; It will swirl down on the head of the wicked. 20 “The anger of the LORD will not turn back Until He has performed and carried out the purposes of His heart; In the last days you will clearly understand it. 21 “I did not send these prophets, But they ran. I did not speak to them, But they prophesied. 22 “But if they had stood in My council, Then they would have announced My words to My people, And would have turned them back from their evil way And from the evil of their deeds. 23 “Am I a God who is near," declares the LORD, "And not a God far off? 24 “Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?" declares the LORD. "Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?" declares the LORD. 25 “I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, ‘I had a dream, I had a dream!’ (Jer. 23:16-25; cf. Ezek. 13:3) “3 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe to the foolish prophets who are following their own spirit and have seen nothing.”
Lord willing we will continue looking at these verses from 2 Peter as there is some more commentary to look at which we will do beginning tomorrow, Lord willing.”
