EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/04/2025 8:40 PM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-2 “Peter’s Eyewitness Experience”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 Peter 1:16-18
Message of the verses: “16 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased" —18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.”
I want to start where I ended up in yesterday’s SD which was quoting from John MacArthur’s commentary to help us understand different Greek words that Peter was using, and I begin this evening with the word gnorizo.
“Made known (gnorizo) is often used in the New Testament to speak of imparting new revelation (John 17:26; Rom. 16:26; Eph. 1:9; 3:3, 5, 10; Cf. Luke 2:15; John 15:15; Acts 2:28; Rom. 9:22-23; 2 Cor. 8:1; Col. 1:27; 4:7, 9). In this instance, the revelation concerned the power and coming of the Lord Jesus Christ—His second coming in glory and dominion (Matt. 25:31; Luke 12:40; Acts 1:19-11; Titus 2:13; 1 Peter 1:13; Rev. 1:7). Apparently the false teachers were not only undermining Peter’s teaching in general, but also specifically denying what he said about the return of Christ. Peter’s reference to that line of attack later in this letter (3:3-1) confirms that fact.”
I suppose that the second coming of Jesus Christ at the Rapture, where He comes in the clouds, and then His second coming to planet earth as seen in Revelation 19, “11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.’” Notice first the highlighted verses as the first one describes the Lord Jesus Christ coming out of heaven on a white horse returning to planet earth where He will set up His Kingdom and reign for 1000 years. Second notice the next highlighted verse which speaks of all true believers in the church age returning with Him to help him as He rules the world. Now here is the question I want to ask, and that is “Will you be in that group, are you sure you will be in that group, and if you can’t answer that question then you can make sure you will be in that group if you realize that first of all you are a sinner, for Paul says “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Let us now move to Romans 6:23 which says “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus the Lord.” These two verses talk about the Word of God and sin. Now I have written a paper entitled “The Word of God,” and it was written many, many years ago, and so I think that the best thing I can do now is to copy and paste this paper right here, and then in tomorrow’s SD we will continue to look at these verses from 2 Peter.
THE WORD OF GOD
I. THE WORD OF GOD AND SIN.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus the Lord.”
II. THEWORD OF GOD AND SALVATION.
Romans 10:9-10 “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved, for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, but which we must be saved.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life: but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on Him.
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 1:12 “But as many as received Him to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.”
Romans 5:1 “Therefore having been justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
III. THE WORD OF GOD AND THE ASSURANCE OF SALVATION.
1 John 5:13 “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.”
John 10:27-30 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish, and not one shall snatch them out of My hands. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
“I and the Father are One.
IV. THE WORD OF GOD AND GROWTH
Colossians 2:6 “As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.
1 Peter 2:2 “Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the Word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.”
2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
V. THE WORD OF GOD.
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
