PT-1 “God’s Supernatural Revelation” (2 Peter 1:19-21)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/08/2025 6:00 PM

My Worship Time                                                 Focus: PT-1 “God’s Supernatural Revelation”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                               Reference: 2 Peter 1:19-21

Message of the verses:  19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”

I have to say that I am so happy that the Lord has led me to look at 2 Peter, for I have not read or studied it in a long time, and frankly have forgotten how rich this last letter of Peter is.  I have always loved to study about prophecy and to be sure there is some end time things in this letter, and one of the end time things we will be looking at is when and how the earth and the universe will be destroyed, yes that is in this wonderful short letter written by the apostle Peter!

I want to begin looking at this section by looking at 2 Timothy 3:16; “16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”  Ok it is hard to just look at verse 16 without adding verse 17 to it, as it makes more sense that way.  Now let me tell you why I quoted these two verses at the beginning of the commentary on these verses we will be beginning to look at this evening.  Now as accurate as they were, in declaring the truth of God did not merely depend on the oral, eyewitness accounts of the apostles.  Through the agency of the Holy Spirit He superintended the recording of those experiences and thoughts in the inspired revelation, and that is seen in these two verses from 2nd Timothy.  Now Peter’s reply to those who would question the validity of his experiences is that believers have even a better source which is the prophet word made more sure, which is the Word of God.  John MacArthur writes that “Some commentators contend the phrase indicates that the apostles’ experiences validated the Scripture, that glimpsing Jesus’ kingdom glory on the Mount of Transfiguration somehow confirmed the prophets’ predictions concerning His second coming.  That is a possible interpretation, but the phrase’s literal rendering, ‘we have more sure the prophetic word,’ recommends another interpretation.  That is, as reliable and helpful as Peter’s experience was the prophetic word of Scripture is more sure.  Throughout redemptive history, God Himself has repeatedly emphasized that His inspired Word is inerrant, infallible, and the all-sufficient source of truth, which does not require human confirmation (Pss. 19:7; John 17:17; 1 Cor. 2:10-14; 1 Thess. 2:13; cf. Prov. 6:23; Dan. 10:21, KNJV).”

I think that it is important that I quote these verses in the order that they are seen above.

Pss. 19:7 “The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.”

Pss. 119:160 “The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.”

John 17:17 “"Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.’”

1 Cor. 2:10-14 “10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.”

1 Thess. 2:13 “For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.”

Now we will compare the following two verses with what we have looked at and that will end this SD for this evening.

Proverbs 6:23 “For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life.”

Daniel 10:21 (NKJV) ““But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince.)”
