SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/04/2025 12:10 PM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-2“A Reliant Meekness”
Bible Reading and Meditation Reference: Jonah 3:9
Message of the verses: “Who knows, God may turn and relent and turn away from His burning anger so that we will not perish.”
I continue to look at this section in today’s SD, but will probably need one more day in order to finish it. I never want to be in a hurry when studying the Word of God.
The king was actually acknowledging his uncertainty about God’s response, he had come to believe that God could turn and relent and turn away from His burning anger. The king understood that Yahweh had the prerogative to turn and alleviate the course of judgment. Now in doing so, God would not only relent, lessening the consequences of His fury, but he would also fully turn from His burning anger, abandoning His wrathful disposition against the city. Here are some verses that go along with this last statement “Jeremiah 18:7-10; 26:3, 13. Altogether, the phrase describes a reversal of divine condemnation and judgment, an act of astounding compassion and mercy, something that God can do and really wants to do. The king’s words underscored God’s absolute sovereignty to withhold punishment and extend grace. As he acknowledged, only if God turned from His wrath would Nineveh not perish. The sailors had declared the same truth earlier in Jonah 1:6. Like the sailors, the king understood that God alone had the power over life and death. Thus, he and his citizens surrendered themselves completely to God’s will.
As I think about what was then going on in Nineveh I believe that this kind of thing goes on every day on planet earth with individuals who have been living for themselves, doing sinful things in their life and then one day the Spirit of God will confront them through another person who is a believer, and then that sinful person realizes that he or she is a sinner bound for hell. This was what was happening to the king of Nineveh at this time and so he would repent and believe that Yahweh would be the only answer to his sinful life, and that could be someone who is reading this Spiritual Diary, and so they confess that they are a sinner, and in great need to be saved from their sins, and so they tell the Lord that they are a sinner, and then tell Him they are in need of salvation. They then realize that the Lord Jesus Christ came to planet earth 2000 years ago in order to die on a cross to satisfy God for all sins and so they invite the Lord into their hearts realizing that He died for them, and then they realize that the Lord just saved them and changed their destination from hell to heaven. Next they will praise the Lord for His great salvation, and then have a desire to tell others so they too can be saved. That is what happened to me 51 and a half years ago, and that is one of the reasons that I take time each day to write these Spiritual Diaries each day so people can hear the gospel, accept the gospel and then begin to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It looks like we may have a couple of more days in this section, but that does not really matter to me as I love to tell the story of how the Lord Jesus Christ saved me from my sins on January 26, 1974 while visiting a friend of mine in Florida.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Remembering the day the Lord saved me and to tell others how they too can be saved.
My Steps of Faith for Today: Trusting the Lord to work in my wife’s body to restore her to health. Hoping that this is His will for her.
