EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11/14-2025 9:05 PM
My Worship Time Focus: PT-7 “God’s Supernatural Revelation”
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 Peter 1:19-21
Message of the verses: “19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”
I did mention last evening that we have a few more SD’s to do on this section, but I was wrong, as I believe I can finish this tonight, and it will be kind of short.
There is a story in the Word of God about the king from the Southern Kingdom, going to help the king from the Northern Kingdom, and this did not happen much as for most of the times after the split that they were actually fighting against each other. I will have to do this from memory. At any rate the enemy they were fighting against had taken a part of the land that God gave to those on the Northern side across the Jordan River and this happened right after the children of Israel came in to conquer the land God had promised to them, so this story is many years later. The king from the North had many of his false prophets to deal with on whether or not they would win this war, but the king of the South asked him if there were not one true prophet who speaks in the name of the Lord, and they found one, but the king of the north said he never said anything good when he prophesied. That is what happened and this prophet said that this king of the northern tribes would die in the battle. Well the king was afraid and so he dressed in clothes in order to not reveal who he was, and the Bible says that the enemy shot an arrow at random and hit the king and he died, so the prophecy came true because the prophet who said this got his information from the Lord.
John MacArthur writes the following as he completes this section: “False prophets spoke of their own things, from their own ideas, but no true message from God ever arose from a human interpretation. Interpretation (epiluseos) is an unfortunate translation because in English it indicates how one understands Scripture, whereas the Greek noun is a genitive, indication source. Thus Peter is not referring to the explanation of Scripture, but to its origin. The next statement in verse 21, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but (alla, ‘just the opposite,’ quite the contrary’) men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God, further supports the point of source. What human beings might think or want has absolutely nothing to do with divine prophecy…”
“Moved (pheromenoi) is a present passive participle that means ‘continually carried,’ or ‘borne along.’ Luke twice used this verb (Acts 27:15, 17) to describe how the wind blows a sailing ship across the waters. For Peter, it was as if the writers of Scripture raised their spiritual sails and allowed the Spirit to fill them with His powerful breath of revelation as they penned its divine words (Luke 1:70). When Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me saying’ (Jer. 1:4), he spoke for all the Old Testament writers and, by extension, all the New Testament writers who followed them. The only one who knows the mind of God is the Spirit of God (1 Cor. 2:10-13; cf. John 15:26; Rom. 8:27; 11:34; cf. John 3:8), so only He could have inspired the Scripture.
“If believers are going to stand against the errors of false teachers, they must seek to know, accept, and obey the totality of Scripture, even as the apostle Paul did in testifying before the Roman governor Felix, But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they [the Jews] call a sect I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets’ (Acts 24:14, emphasis added).”
Lord willing we will begin the second chapter of 2 Peter, looking at verses 2:1-3a).
