The Insolence (Zech. 7:11)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 7/19/2016 11:23 PM

My Worship Time                                                                                          Focus:  The Insolence

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  Zechariah 7: 11

Message of the verses:  “But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears from hearing. Zechariah is speaking about the generation before them and does not want to see this generation make the same mistakes that they did.  John MacArthur writes that there is a four step progression here which we will look at.  First as seen in verse eleven “they refused to pay attention,” and this shows us that they took lightly what the Lord had to say to them.  Next we see that they turned a rebellious shoulder and this phrase is also used in Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”  Once again we see that the Jews did not want to have anything to do with God’s Law.

Next we see that these people stopped up their ears as seen at the end of verse eleven.  This was a deliberate way not listening to the Lord, or the prophets He sent them who spoke about His Word.  They had made up their minds and did not want to be bothered with any of the facts, and this is the fourth stage of their fall.

In our next SD we will look at the insolence which begins in verse 12.
