My Worship Time Focus: Dense Confusion PT-1
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: John 7:25-29
Message of the verses: “25 So some of the people of Jerusalem were
saying, "Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill? 26 “Look, He
is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. The rulers do not
really know that this is the Christ, do they? 27 “However, we know where this
man is from; but whenever the Christ may come, no one knows where He is
from." 28 Then Jesus cried
out in the temple, teaching and saying, "You both know Me and know
where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true,
whom you do not know. 29 “I know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent
Me."”
It will
takes us more than one day to go over these verses as they have a lot of
meaning in them that does not really come out in the way that the English words
show them, but in the Greek there is much more to see in them. I listened to MacArthur’s sermon on this
section from 25-36 yesterday and this is where I learned about this and will
try and pass along what I learned.
He said in
his sermon that he used the word “dense” because it started with the letter “d”
and also said that the word means stupid, not to smart or observing, which is
what we see of the people in this section.
Now there
was a difference from the people who lived in Jerusalem and those who had come
from a far distance who came for the Feast of Tabernacles, as the people in
Jerusalem knew the things that were going on with Jesus, but those who traveled
from far away did not know, so we see in this section those who were from
Jerusalem speaking while in verse 20 we read “The crowd answered, "You
have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?" and the reason that these visitors
said this was as stated they did not realize what was going on with Jesus, for
in chapter five we did see that the “Jews” did want to kill Him. Verse 25 begins with “So some of the people
of Jerusalem were saying,” as they knew that many of the Jewish leaders want
Jesus dead. Now remember our theme in
chapter seven which speaks of the timing of what Jesus did, and because it was
not His time to die, He would not die until six months later when it would be
His time.
John
MacArthur writes “(The Greek grammar of the question, ‘Is this not the man whom
they are seeking to kill?’ expects an affirmative answer.) Yet those same leaders had listened in
paralyzed silence as Jesus openly condemned their hypocrisy (vv. 19,
21-24). Perhaps the authorities feared
debating Him in public, knowing they would come out on the losing end (cf. vv.
15-18). Or they may have been awed by
His commanding presence, remembering how He boldly cleansed the temple
(2:14-16). They may have also been
concerned that seizing Jesus in public might spark a riot (for which the Romans
would have held them accountable; cf. 11:48), since many in the crowd still had
a favorable impression of Him (cf. v. 12).”
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Well in our country it is Mother’s Day, and
that is something that we celebrate to give honor to all mothers and with that
I wish all mothers who read this a Happy Mother’s Day.
Answer to yesterdays Bible question: “Death” (Romans 5:14).
Today’s Bible question:
“In Luke 4:41 who cried out saying ‘Thou art Christ, the Son of God?”
Answer in our next SD.
