Intro to Zech. 3-4

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 5/2/2016 10:58 PM

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  Intro to Zech. 3-4

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                             Reference:

Message of the verses:  We will begin looking at the third chapter of Zechariah in our Spiritual Diary for this evening as we go back to what Dr. Warren Wiersbe has to say from his commentary on these verses.  He entitles his second chapter “God And His Leaders” and it covers the 3rd and 4th chapters of Zechariah.  We will look at only the third chapter over the next few Spiritual Diaries and then once again move to what John MacArthur has to say about chapter three.

I read or heard at some point in my life that a leader always has to know and to realize that he is always second in command.  When a leader realizes this, that God is always first in command then he has a great opportunity to succeed in his endeavors.  Leaders also have to realize that they must depend on others who are under them to help them get done what they must get done, for no leader knows it all and thus must depend on others who know things in different areas to help them make good decisions.

Dr. Wiersbe writes “Certainly successful leaders enjoy the ‘peaks’ and ‘perks’ that go with their positions, but they also have to deal with the valleys and sacrifices that are also a big part of the job.  Real leadership isn’t easy.”

We will be talking about two leaders as we go through these two chapters, and they are Zerubbable and also Joshua.  Zerubbable was the political leader while Joshua was the high priest and so they had to work together in order to accomplish the things that God wants them to accomplish as far as getting the temple built and also making sure that the city and the people of the city are safe.  Dr. Wiersbe writes “Zerubbable was trying to motivate people who were discouraged and selfish, and Joshua was trying to educate people who were disobedient and sinful.  Is there an hope for a defiled and discouraged nation or a defiled and discouraged church or individual?

“Yes, there is!  God gave the Prophet Zechariah two visions that speak to us today and encourage us to keep serving the Lord no matter how difficult the people or circumstances may be.”

Now as I think about this a bit more perhaps it will be best to look at both chapters with the help of Warren Wiersbe and then look once again at both chapters with the help of John MacArthur’s sermons.
