SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/11/2016 4:59 PM
My Worship Time Focus:
Commemoration
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zechariah 6:14-15
Message of the verses: “14 “Now the crown will become a reminder in
the temple of the LORD to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah and Hen the son of Zephaniah.
15 “Those who are far off will come and build the temple of the LORD."
Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you. And it will take
place if you completely obey the LORD your God.”
We will
begin this SD by looking at Zechariah 3:5 “Then I said, "Let them put a
clean turban on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and
clothed him with garments, while the angel of the LORD was standing by.” We begin here because Zechariah has taken the
crown off of Joshua’s head and replaced it with what is called his priestly “miter”
as seen in the above verse. He then puts
the crown into the temple for this was only a symbolic act of putting it on
Joshua’s head point to the King Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ who will in the
future bring peace and holiness to the Jewish people, His people.
Let us look
at 2 Timothy 2:12-13, some verses we have just looked at that were placed on my
blog a couple days ago, “12 If we
endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us;
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot
deny Himself.” Now we know that
the Jewish people have not been faithful to the Lord and neither has the
church, but God is always faithful and as we read “He remains faithful, for He
cannot deny Himself.” Since God has made
a covenant with the people of Israel and they have not been faithful to Him,
God will still be faithful to them because He cannot deny Himself, in other
words He will keep His unconditional covenant with Israel because God is
Immutable, God cannot change His mind.
Dr. Wiersbe
writes “This statement, (‘this will happen if you diligently obey the Lord your
God’ NIV), is a reference to God’s covenant recorded in Deuteronomy 28: ‘How it
shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God’ (v.
1). The remnant of the Jews then in the
Holy Land had to obey God’s laws so that He might protect them and bless them
as He promised, for the Messiah had to be born from this nation. Within a few centuries, the Angel Gabriel
would visit Mary and tell her she had been chosen to bring the promised Messiah
into the world (Luke 1:26-38). The faithfulness
of one generation assured the blessing of the next generation of the whole
world.
The visions
are ended. We have seen a vivid panorama
of God’s plans for Israel, culminating in the King-Priest on David’s throne,
ruling over Israel and the whole world.
‘Remember
these prophecies the next time you pray “Thy kingdom come.’”
As our
practice has been as we go through the book of Zechariah we have been looking
at what Dr. Warren Wiersbe has to say and then go back and look at what John
MacArthur has to say about, in this case chapters 5-6. I have mentioned in the past that they do not
always agree with each other, but that is ok as we don’t always know for sure
the meaning of some of the prophet’s messages either, but we will do our best
to understand what Zechariah is saying from his book.
