God’s Judgment on Sin’s System
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zechariah 5:9-11
Message of the verses: “9 Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and
there two women were coming out with the wind in their wings; and they had
wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth
and the heavens. 10 I said to the angel who was speaking with me, "Where
are they taking the ephah?" 11 Then he said to me, "To build a temple
for her in the land of Shinar; and when it is prepared, she will be set there
on her own pedestal.’”
As we read
over these verses it is not to difficult to figure out sin’s system and when it
will happen. We see two women take this ephah
of evil away, and then Zechariah wants to know where they are going to take it,
and he is told they are taking it to Shinar where a temple for it will be
built. Shinar is another name for
Babylon, and Babylon will be the system of sin in the future. When we studied the book of Revelation we
learned that there will be an end time “religion” which the Antichrist will
overtake and make himself to be what most everyone will think he is God. Of course the believers will realize he is
not, but the evil system of Babylon will be set up so that everyone will have
to receive the “mark of the beast” in order to buy or sell anything, a clever
way to show the difference between those who are true believers and those who
are not for the true believers will not take the mark, and many will die for
their faith. As noted before both the
religious and economical Babylon’s will be destroyed by the Lord. As seen in
Revelation 17 and 18.
John
MacArthur writes about these two women: “Well
who are these women? Are they good
angels or bad angles? Well number one,
good angels are never seen as women, two, women are often symbols of religious
evil, so my own conviction is that they are demons and I say that because for
one thing they are associated with the other woman in the basket, for another
they set up on its base and they are responsible for the organizing apparently
of the Babylon system, for another thing according to Leviticus 11 and
Deuteronomy 14, storks are unclean birds, and I don’t think God would use an
unclean bird to symbolize a holy angel, and I think another reason is in the
final end of everything evil spirits will set up the final kingdom of
evil. So I think you’ve got a couple of
demons. They grab the basket and they
fly off to Babylon. Shinar’s the ancient
name for Babylon.”
Babel is
first mentioned in the book of Genesis where evil began when men were building
towers to reach into the heavens, and it will end there as the tribulation
period ends. Babylon has always been
know as the evil system opposing what God is doing through Jesus Christ.
So we see
as we conclude our study of Zechariah chapter five that God is going to judge
sin as a totality and wipe it out. God
is also going to judge sinners as individuals and wipe them out too. God is going to judge the evil system of the
world which will be seen in its final great form which happens during the tribulation
period. After that the Lord Jesus Christ
will return to earth to judge those unbelievers who have not been killed during
the tribulation, and then He will begin to set up His promised kingdom which
will last for 1000 years.
