Look at the Two Bronze Mountains from Zech. 6:1

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/23/2016 8:53 PM

My Worship Time                                                             Focus:  Look at Two Bronze Mountains

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                      Reference:  Zechariah 6:1

Message of the verses:  “1 Now I lifted up my eyes again and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming forth from between the two mountains; and the mountains were bronze mountains.”

We left off from yesterday’s Spiritual Diary with a promise to look at the two mountains found in this first verse from Zechariah chapter six.  I found the research from John MacArthur’s sermon very interesting on what the two mountains represent.  First of all we have looked at the description of Jesus Christ in the first chapter of the book of Revelation, and on His feet were bronze shoes which represent Judgment so we have to realize that these two mountains represent a coming judgment.  A part of the Tabernacle and later on the temple has a bronze altar, a place where a sacrifice was made.  I looked up the “purpose of the bronze altar and found the following “This was the altar on which the sacrifices were made which Lev.1:9 describes as a sweet savour to the Lord. This was where the blood was shed and the sinner was pardoned. No matter how good a person was, without the shedding of blood there was no forgiveness. No matter how good a person was, without the shedding of blood there was no forgiveness.”

Okay we know what bronze represents in the Bible now we want to know where these two mountains are and what will happen with them.  John MacArthur tells us that there is a definite article for these mountains, in other words in the Hebrew it would say “The mountains.”  He writes “So out of this came from between two mountains in the Hebrew.  So the are some well-known and definite mountains.”  In the Word of God we can see, and for that matter other places that mountains represent strength and power, so we can understand that there will be a powerful judgment happening here between these two bonze mountains.  MacArthur tells us that the early church father named Eusebius, and also many other scholars tell us that these two mountains are the Mount of Olives and Mount Zion.  In between these mountains is what is known as the Kidron Valley and it is right there near Jerusalem and can be seen today.  Let us look at the Old Testament prophet Joel who writes about the final judgment in Joel 3:2 “I will gather all the nations And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land.”  You may ask where is the valley of Jehoshaphat? And as of today there is none known, but if we read this in the Scriptures and in the prophets about the last days we can rest assured it will one day be seen. This word “Jehoshaphat” means “Jehovah judges,” and as we will see He will judge in this valley, the Kidron valley.  MacArthur writes “Jews and Moslems both agree that the final judgment of the world will take place in the Kidron Valley, which will be renamed the Valley of Jehoshaphat because it will be there that Jehovah judges.”  Let us now take a look at Zechariah 14:4 to help us out a bit: “In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south.”  Not wanting to go down a rabbit trail, but if one looks at the first chapter of the book of Acts they will find that it was from this very spot that Zechariah writes about here that Jesus left to go to heaven.  Another thing is that people in Israel were searching for oil on this spot and they say that there is a great fault so an earthquake could happen at any time, but that earthquake is waiting for the foot of our Lord to return.  MacArthur concludes this section “When Christ hits the Mount of Olives and He spits the Mount of Olives wide open, He’ll create a huge valley between Zion and the Mount of Olives and that is the valley that Joel calls the valley of Jehoshaphat where Jehovah judges.  So in Zechariah’s vision…now, back to chapter 6..in Zechariah’s vision, he sees, no doubt, Olive and Zion and coming down that valley, the four war chariots of God.”

We will begin looking at them in our next SD.
