God Removes Wickedness (Zech. 5:6-11)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/6/2016 8:51 PM

My Worship Time                                                            Focus:  God Removes Wickedness

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Zechariah 5:6-11

Message of the verses: 6 I said, "What is it?" And he said, "This is the ephah going forth." Again he said, "This is their appearance in all the land 7 (and behold, a lead cover was lifted up); and this is a woman sitting inside the ephah." 8 Then he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he threw her down into the middle of the ephah and cast the lead weight on its opening. 9 Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and there two women were coming out with the wind in their wings; and they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens. 10 I said to the angel who was speaking with me, "Where are they taking the ephah?" 11 Then he said to me, "To build a temple for her in the land of Shinar; and when it is prepared, she will be set there on her own pedestal."”

I have to say that somewhere in my memory and I believe that it came from a sermon by Hal Lindsey that he mentioned that this symbol has to do with the chamber of commerce that is the two women carrying this basket.  At any rate what we see here is a picture of God removing wickedness from the land of Israel in this vision of Zechariah.  One thing that I want to mention is that angels are sexless, not male nor female and Dr. Wiersbe points out that “these two women were special agents of the Lord created just for this particular task.  They took the ephah and the woman to Shinar (Babylon, Dan. 1:2) and put the ephah on a base in a special house.”

We have to tie this portion of Zechariah with Revelation 17-18 was these two chapters speak of the downfall of mighty Babylon, and Babylon is spoken of as being mighty in commerce as many people were lamenting over the destruction of Babylon, people who sold goods, and services.

Babylon is first mentioned in Genesis 10:10 and the first emperor was Nimrod who was a mighty hunter before the Lord, or against the Lord.  There was commerce there too as this was when the people built the tower of Babel, the first astrological observatory, a place where the stars were charted to tell ones future, a false religion that is in many newspapers today.

Babylon symbolizes the world’s enmity against God as it culminates in Revelation 17-18 as mentioned.  In this vision we see the Lord riding Israel of wickedness by getting rid of the ungodly commerce.  There is nothing wrong with godly business, but ungodly business and governments God does not like.
