The Certainty of Judgment (Zech. 5:4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/17/2016 10:12 PM

My Worship Time                                                                     Focus:  The Certainty of Judgment

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Zechariah 5:4

Message of the verses:  “"I will make it go forth," declares the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name; and it will spend the night within that house and consume it with its timber and stones.’”  “4 And this is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: I am sending this curse into the house of every thief and into the house of everyone who swears falsely using my name. And my curse will remain in that house and completely destroy it-even its timbers and stones’ (NLT).”

Let us do a short review to see where we are at as we look at this first paragraph from Zechariah chapter five.  We are to look at three features in this 5th chapter of Zechariah, the first one is God’s Judgment on the sinner, and then next is God’s judgment on sin, and finally God judgment on the system.  Now under this first feature, God’s Judgment on the sinner there are three elements to look at and we have already looked at the first two and in our SD for this evening we look at the third element which is “The Certainty of Judgment,” which as stated comes from verse four.

Now as we read this fourth verse we can understand why John MacArthur entitled this third element the certainty of judgment as God tells us there that He is going to judge or send this curse into the house on the thief and onto those who swears falsely using God’s name.  As mentioned this covers both tablets of the Ten Commandments.  MacArthur says that this is how he would write this verse:  “I the Lord of the celestial and terrestrial armies I will cause this judgment to go forth with certainty like a flying scroll swift and complete.”  Once again we have to go back to the book of Revelation, the sixth chapter where we will read what the people who will have this judgment on them will say “The people cry for the rocks and the mountains to fall on them to hide them from the face of the one who comes,” as this is a very terrible judgment against them, and it is certain.

We will conclude this SD with what could be determined as good news for those of us who live in this age of grace, the Church age:  In our present day there is grace as God waits and suffers long with the sins of men while the gospel is preached and God is silent to the blasphemes and the crimes of sinners. But in the millennial dawn, in the day when Jesus comes, the unrelenting curse of God will ferret out every sinner in the world and destroy him before the kingdom and when sinners are born in that kingdom and they sin against God the rod will drop on them and consume, it says in verse 4, or exterminate. Thorough judgment! Listen, any chastening that happens to overtake a sinner in this life is only a token of the terrible things that yet are to come. No wonder Jude 14 says, "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these things: behold the lord comes with ten thousand of His saints to execute judgment upon all and to convict all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds, which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches, which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.’”
