The Arguments Against the Second Coming (2 Peter 3:3-4)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/31/2025 6:37 PM

My Worship Time                                         Focus:  The Arguments Against the Second Coming

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                  Reference:  2 Peter 3:3-4

Message of the verses:  “3 ¶  knowing this first, that scoffers will come in the last days, walking after their own lusts, 4  and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’”

What we are looking at here is a main point, which will have sub-points after it, which I will begin tomorrow.  This will be the last SD for the year 2025, as tomorrow is January 1, 2026, and we begin a new year with more Spiritual Diaries to write and to be looked at.

“In their brazen rejection of Christ’s return, the false teachers of Peter’s day began by denying the Word of God.  Although they recognized the promise of His coming, they simply discounted it as false.  Instead of submitting to God’s self-revelation, the false teachers flatly rejected the reality of Jesus’ second coming—simultaneous, and to their own sinful satisfaction, disregarding any thought of future accountability (cf. 1 Peter 5:1-4).”

(cf. 1 Peter 5:1-4)

“1 ¶  The elders who are among you I exhort, who am also an elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2  Feed the flock of God which is among you, exercising oversight not by constraint but willingly, not for base gain but eagerly; 3  nor as being lords over the inheritance of God, but being examples to the flock. 4  And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of glory that does not fade away.”

“As a result, they ridiculed those who were righteous, flaunted their own immorality, and foolishly clung to a uniformitarian worldview.  The apostle addressed each of these three factors (their ridicule, immorality, and uniformitarian worldview) for his readers as he unmasked the true motivation of the false teachers’ hearts.”

I have mentioned in earlier SD’s how I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.  I have to say that the Holy Spirit of God woke me up (so to speak) by using the teaching of the second coming of Jesus Christ through a series of cassette tapes entitled “Two Years After The Late Great Planet Earth, spoken by Hal Lindsey, the man who wrote “The Late Great Planet Earth.”  I have to say that this was all that I studied for a while, and after becoming a believer the first book from the Bible that I read was the book of Revelation, something that I would not advise anyone to do.  God has been patient with me as I, like all believers have spiritual ups and downs.  I am trying to be faithful to what I believe he is calling me to do, which is studying the Word of God and then writing Spiritual Diaries which by the grace of God and through the Holy Spirit of God sends them around the world each day.

Tomorrow, Lord willing we will begin to look at 2 Peter 3:3a under the heading of “Ridicule.”

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THOSE WHO READ MY SPIRITUAL DIARIES.

PT-3 “Intro to “Comfort through Judgment”

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/31/2025 10:00 AM

My Worship Time                                     Focus:  PT-3“Intro to “Comfort through Judgment”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                Reference:  Nahum 1:9-15

Message of the verses:  “9 ¶  What do you conspire against the LORD?  He will make an utter end of it. Affliction will not rise up a second time. 10  For while tangled like thorns,  And while drunken like drunkards,  They will be devoured like stubble fully dry. 11  Out of you comes  One who plots evil against the LORD,  A wicked counsellor.  12  Thus says the LORD:  “Though they are quiet and likewise many,  Yet they will be cut down when he will pass through.  Though I have afflicted you, I shall afflict you no more; 13  For now I shall break off his yoke from you,  And burst your bonds apart.” 14  And the LORD has given a command concerning you,  “Your name will be perpetuated no more.  Out of the house of your gods, I shall cut off  The carved image and the moulded image.  I shall make your grave, for you are vile.” 15  (2:1) Behold, upon the mountains  The feet of him who brings good news,  Who proclaims peace!  Oh Judah, keep your feasts,  Perform your vows.  For no more  Will the wicked man pass through you;  He is utterly cut off.”

I continue looking at the introduction to the above verses written by Nahum using John MacArthur’s commentary along with some of my comments and quoting many of the verses that MacArthur inserts in his commentary.

“The promise of the Messiah provides an even greater example of this relationship between near and distant prophecies.  The Old Testament reveals that the Messiah will conquer all His enemies and reign on earth during the millennial kingdom (cf. Ps. 110:1; Zech. 14).”

(cf. Ps. 110:1; Zech. 14)

“1 ¶  «A Psalm of David.» The LORD said to my Lord  “Sit at my right hand  Until I make your enemies  Your footstool.”

I will not quote Zecheriah 14 because of the length of the passage, but encourage you to look it up and read it.

“But Scripture also predicted that before Christ’s ultimate victory, He would suffer, die, and rise again (cf. Gen. 3:15; Psalm 16:10; Isa. 53; Zech. 12:10-13a).”

(cf. Gen. 3:15; Psalm 16:10; Isa. 53; Zech. 12:10-13a)

“15  And I shall put enmity  Between you and the woman,  And between your seed  And her seed;  He will bruise your head,  And you will bruise his heel.”

“10  For you will not leave my body in the grave,  Nor will you allow your Holy One to see corruption.”

“1 ¶  Who has believed our report?  And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2  For he will grow up as a tender plant

before him,  And as a root out of dry ground.  He has no form or comeliness,  And when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3  He is despised and rejected by men,  A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.  And we hid, as it were, our faces from

him;  He was despised, and we did not esteem him.

4 ¶  Surely he has borne our griefs  And has carried our sorrows;  Yet we esteemed him stricken,  Struck by God, and afflicted. 5  But he was wounded for our transgressions,  He was bruised for our iniquities;  The chastisement for our peace was upon him,  And by his stripes, we are healed. 6  All we like sheep have gone astray;  We have turned, every one of us, to his own way,  And the LORD has laid on him  The iniquity of us all. 7  He was oppressed and he was afflicted,  Yet he did not open his mouth;  He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,  And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,  So he did not open his mouth. 8  He was taken from prison and judgment,  And who will declare his generation?  For he was cut off from the land of the living;  For the transgressions of my people he was stricken. 9  And he made his grave with the wicked,  And with the rich man at his death,  Because he had done no violence,  Nor was any deceit in his mouth.

10 ¶  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he has put him to grief.  When you make his soul an offering for sin,  He will see his seed, he will prolong his days,  And the pleasure of the LORD will prosper in his hand. 11  He will see the travail of his soul, and be satisfied.  By his knowledge, my righteous Servant will justify many,  For he will bear their iniquities. 12  Therefore I shall divide him a portion with the great,  And he will divide the plunder with the strong,  Because he poured out his soul to death,  And he was numbered with the transgressors,  And he bore the sin of many,  And made intercession for the transgressors.”

“10  And I shall pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and supplications, and they will look on me whom they have pierced and they will mourn for him as one mourns for his only son, and is in bitterness for him as one is in bitterness for a firstborn. 11  On that day the mourning will be great in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadad Rimmon in the Valley of Megiddo. 12  And the land will mourn, each family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13  the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14  all the families that remain, each family by itself, and their wives by themselves.” 1 ¶  “On that day a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.”

“Because the Lord Jesus perfectly fulfilled the prophecies regarding His firs coming, He proved the veracity of those prophecies related to His second coming.  Believers can therefore rest with certainty in the truthfulness of those promises which are yet to be fulfilled.  As the angels declared to the disciples on the Mount of Olives, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking toward heaven?  This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven’ (Act. 1:11).

“With the language ‘Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who proclaims good news’ (Nahum 1:15), Nathan linked his prophecy with the words of Isaiah (cf. Isa. 52:7).”

(cf. Isa. 52:7)

7 ¶  How beautiful upon the mountains  Are the feet of him who brings good news,  Proclaims peace, who brings good news,  Who proclaim salvation,  Who say to Zion,  “Your God reigns.’”

“Nahum’s message of Nineveh’s fall was the near prophecy that served as a guarantee for eschatological destruction of Israel’s enemies and establishment of Messiah’s earthly kingdom.  In detailing Nineveh’s demise, God confirmed the certainty of His plan (1:9-13), His promises (v. 14), and His prophecies (v. 15).  All of this brought comfort to God’ people, both in the immediate and for all time.”

Spiritual Meaning for my Life Today:  Trusting God to do all of the things that He said will happen, found in His Word, increases my faith.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I am trusting that the Lord will answer a very important prayer form me.

PT-2 “Intro to “Comfort through Judgment” (Nahum 1:9-15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/30/2025 9:14 AM

My Worship Time                                     Focus:  PT-2 “Intro to “Comfort through Judgment”

I continue looking at the introduction to the above verses written by Nahum using John MacArthur’s commentary along with some of my comments and also quoting many of the verses that MacArthur inserts in his commentary.

“That the judgment of God can bring comfort to His people is a theme found throughout Scripture.  The saints have often cried out to the Lord asking Him to hold evildoers accountable.  David did so, beseeching God to pour out His burning indignation on the enemies of Israel (Ps. 69:4).”

(Ps. 69:4)

“4  (69:5) Those who hate me without a cause  Multiply more than the hairs of my head;  My destroyers are mighty,  They are wrongfully my enemies;  Though from whom I have stolen nothing,  I still must restore it.”

The psalmist called such vindication the salvation of Zion 4  (69:35-36)

(69:35-36)

“35  (69:36) For God will save Zion  And will rebuild the cities of Judah,  That they may live there and possess it. 36  (69:37) Also, the descendants of his servants will inherit it,  And those who love his name will dwell in it”

“(cf. Psalms 5, 6, 11, 12, 35, 37, 40, 52, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59, 79, 83, 94, 137, 139, and 143).  Looking to the future, Ezekiel prophesied that God will judge Gog in order to ‘return the fortunes of Jacob and have compassion on the whole house of Israel’ (Ezekiel 39:25).  The Apostle John, seeing a vision of the fall of eschatological Babylon, urged the saints to celebrate, saying, ‘Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her’ (Ref. 18:20; cf. 6:9-10; 19:1-2).”

(cf. Rev. 6:9-10 and19:1-2)

“9 ¶  And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10  And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, oh Lord, holy and true, until you judge and avenge our blood on those who live on the earth?”

“1 ¶  And after these things, I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and honour and power belong to the Lord our God! 2  For true and righteous are his judgments, because he has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and he has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”

“As these examples illustrate, the Lord’s holy judgment fulfills His promises by avenging His people and righting the wrongs done against them.  Divine judgment is therefore a great consolation to the righteous.”

“Nahum’s revelation also provided comfort in another important way.  It demonstrated the veracity of divine prophecy because the events it predicted regarding Nineveh came to pass exactly as they were foretold.  The precise fulfillment of Nahum’s predictions (near prophecies).  Per Old Testament law, a true prophet was one whose predictions came to pass with perfect accuracy (Deut. 18:21-22).”

(Deut. 18:21-22)

“21  And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’— 22  When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.’”

“Because prophets often made predictions that went beyond their lifetimes. They would also give a more immediate prediction to certify their credibility.  For example, in 1 Kings 13:1-5, a man of God prophesied that nearly three centuries later the righteous king Josiah would come to the throne and remove false religion from the land.  To verify this distant prophecy, the man of God also declared that the altar before him would split open and ashes would pour out.  Because that immediate prediction took place, the people knew that his distant prophecy would also occur.”

(1 Kings 13:1-5)

“1 ¶  And behold, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel by the word of the LORD, and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. 2  And he cried out against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, “Oh altar, altar, thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, a son will be born to the house of David, Josiah by name, and on you, he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burned incense on you, and they will burn men’s bones on you.’” 3  And he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign which the LORD has spoken: Behold, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes on it will be poured out.” 4  And it came to pass when the king heard the saying of the man of God, who cried out against the altar at Bethel, that Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him.” And his hand, which he stretched out towards him, was withered, so that he could not pull it back to himself. 5  The altar was also split apart, and the ashes were poured out from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.”

Spiritual Meaning for my Life Today:  Realizing that God is in complete control of the things that go on, on planet earth, and realizing that in order to be humble, I must do the things that God has called me to do in complete humility.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Trust the Lord to continue to work in my heart so that like king David, I can be humble before him all the days of my life.

PT-3 “Intro to “The certainty of the Second Coming” (2 Peter 3:1-10)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/29/2025 6:15 PM

My Worship Time                          Focus:  PT-3 “Intro to “The certainty of the Second Coming”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                Reference:  2 Peter 3:1-10

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle, in which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance, 2  to be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first, that scoffers will come in the last days, walking after their own lusts, 4  and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5  For this, they are willingly ignorant: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water, 6  by which the world that then was, perished, being flooded with water. 7  But the heavens and the earth, which now are kept by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, do not be ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering towards us, not willing that any should perish but that all men should come to repentance. 10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; also the earth and the works in it will be burned up.”

I’m hoping to finish this introduction from the verses above as there are not a lot of verses to look up in this last section.

“Of course, the devil also recognizes how important this doctrine is to the church.  When Christians live in anticipation of Christ’s promised return, they demonstrate spiritual zeal and enthusiasm, recognizing that they will soon give an account to their Master (Rom. 13:11; 1 Tim. 6:14; 2 Tim. 4:5).”

(Rom. 13:11; 1 Tim. 6:14; 2 Tim. 4:5)

“11 ¶  And do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour that we are awakened out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”

14  that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,”

“5  But you, be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.”

“As the apostle John wrote, it is a purifying hope (1 John 3:3).”

(1 John 3:3)

“3  And every man who has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure.”

“But, when believers forget about the second coming and begin focusing instead on the things of this world, they become absorbed in the temporal and grow apathetic and cold toward the eternal.  Satan knows that if he can get the church to discount the importance of Christ’s return, or even completely deny its reality, he can remove a very significant source of Christian hope and motivation.  To that end the devil continually places skeptics and false teachers within the church, men who reject, minimize, or alter Jesus’ promise.  Such cynics who plague Christendom today were also around in Peter’s time.

“In 3:1-10, Peter responds directly to the false teachers’ attacks.  First, he considers the fallacious arguments they made against the second coming.  Second, he answers those allegations, providing counter-arguments which support Christ’s return. Finally, he concludes by assuring his readers that , no matter what the heretics say, God’s future judgment is certain.”

I totally believe this is a tactic of Satan as he uses other things to keep the minds of believers off the truth of Christ’s second coming.  I have to say, and have said this before that when the Lord saved me He used messages from Hal Lindsey which were all on the second coming of Jesus Christ.  I can look back at that time when I was visiting a friend of mine in Florida and it was his idea to let me listen to some cassette tapes which Hal Lindsey did two years after he had published his book “The Late Great Planet Earth.”  He had gone to different colleges to give out the saving gospel of Jesus Christ and had his messages taped and my friend got them from a former boss of his, and when I was there allowed me to listen to them.  God changed my life during that visit to my high school friend who lived up the street from me.  The major theme of those tapes were about the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ at the rapture.  It is a subject that I still love to read and study about and have written many Spiritual Diaries on that wonderful subject.

Intro to “Comfort through Judgment” (Nahum 1:9-15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/29/2025 10:44 AM

My Worship Time                                                   Focus:  Intro to “Comfort through Judgment”

I have been studying the book of Nahum since the 3rd of December and now I am at the beginning of this third section which will conclude the first chapter of Nahum.  Before Nahum I studied the book of Jonah which was between 100-150 years before Nahum.  We learned that there was a great revival in Nineveh after Jonah went there to preach, and from what I was able to learn most of the young of Nineveh were the part of this great revival, the largest in the Old Testament, and possibly even in the New Testament.

We are now looking at the last verses in this first chapter of Nahum and we see that there is great trouble lurking for Nineveh because they had turned away from the Lord and now Nahum writes of what will happen to them.

Now I have been mostly quoting from John MacArthur’s commentary in these Spiritual Diaries on Nahum and then commenting some on my own, and also I am quoting many of the verses that he brings up and I see in this introduction to Nahum that MacArthur references 21 chapters from the book of Psalms which I will quote, but not quote all of the verses in those Psalms as that would take too much time and so it will be best I quote them, and then allow those who want to look them up to do so.

“The theme of Nahum’s prophecy is judgment.  Yet, the meaning of his name is ‘comfort.’  These details may initially seem incompatible.  However, in the book of Nahum, comfort and judgment are not in opposition.  Rather, they complement one another in keeping with the prophets purpose.  Nahum sought to comfort God’s people after the northern kingdom of Israel had been violently conquered and exiled by the Assyrians.  By declaring that the Lord would not allow such brutality to go unpunished (cf. Deut. 6:15; 2 Peter 3:7).”

(cf. Deut. 6:15; 2 Peter 3:7)

“15  (for the LORD your God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD your God be aroused against you and destroy you from off the face of the earth.”

“7  But the heavens and the earth, which now are kept by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”

“Nahum’s prophecy offered hope to God’s people by assuring them that Yahweh would bring the wicked to justice.”  Now as I think about justice and judgment which I believe are a part of God’s attributes it makes me think of how Great and awesome God is.  It is very hard for me to understand how God’s attributes work in different situations like for instance love and judgment, or love and justice.  I realize that as a human being I cannot truly understand all there is to know about God, but as Deuteronomy 29:29 says “29  (29:28) The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever, to do all the words of this law.” May I just say something about this verse:  “God knows everything, and yet God has not told, nor does He need to tell His children everything that He knows, however as His children we are to follow all of the things that He has let us know about.”  I know that because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God that this is pretty much impossible to do, and that is where the grace of God comes in.  Grace is the very best thing that God has given to us and it came through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, for Jesus Christ left His home in heaven to be born a man on planet earth in order to teach and to preach and also to die in my place and in everyone who will call on Him.  Grace to me means that Christ did not have to do what He did, but because of His grace to us He did this and all a person has to do is to realize that he or she is a sinner, a sinner who on their own cannot do anything to earn salvation, and so to trust in what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross where he took your sin upon Himself, while separated from His Father who was pouring my wrath and your wrath on the sinless Son of God so that God can then save us through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Now if you have never done this, then pray to the Lord and tell Him that you are a sinner and in need of His salvation through Jesus Christ.  Confess your sin to the Lord and then tell the Lord that you desire to have Jesus Christ to come into your life to save you and if you are sincere and if you believe this He will certainly forgive you.

Looks like we will have to continue looking at this introduction to Nahum 1:9-15 in tomorrow’s Spiritual Diary.

Spiritual Meaning for my Life Today:  As Deuteronomy 29:29 tells me I don’t have to know all about God, but what He has told me in His Word, I must follow.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to trust the Lord with what is going on with my wife’s cancer, trusting Him for what He is doing.

I mentioned in my last SD on the introduction to the verses found above that it would not take a lot of time to go through it, but in MacArthur’s introduction to this very important section of Scripture he has listed many different verses, and because it is my desire to include most of those verses it will take more time to do this introduction, but I pray that it will be worth it for those who take the time to read it.

“It also marks the inauguration of Christ’s earthly kingdom (Rev. 20:6), during which the saints will reign with Him in holiness (2 Tim. 2:12; Rev. 5:10).”

(Rev. 20:6)  “6 ¶  And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living beings, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.”

(2 Tim. 2:12; Rev. 5:10).  12  If we endure,  We shall also reign with him: If we deny him, He will also deny us.”

“10  And have made us kings and priests to our God;  And we shall reign on the earth.”

“The hope of bodily resurrection (1 Thess. 4:13-18), spiritual reward (cf. Matt. 25:21, 23), and righteous a righteous world system (Isa. 9:6-7) are all tied to Jesus’ return.”

(1 Thess. 4:13-18)

13 ¶  But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are fallen asleep, lest you be sorrowful as others who have no hope. 14  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, God will bring with him those who sleep in Jesus. 15  For this we say to you by the word of the Lord: that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who are asleep. 16  For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17  Then we, who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18  Therefore, comfort each other with these words.”

(cf. Matt. 25:21, 23)

“21  And his lord said to him, ‘Well done, you good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I shall make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’”

“23  His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I shall make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’”

(Isa. 9:6-7)

“6  (9:5) For to us a Child is born,  To us a Son is given,  And the government will be upon his shoulder.  And he will call his name  Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God,  Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7  (9:6) Of the increase of the government and peace  There will be no end,  Upon the throne of David and over his kingdom,  To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness,  From this time forward even for ever.  The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

“It is no wonder, then, that the early church found tremendous comfort in the second coming.  After all, the readers of this epistle had already endured much persecution from outside the church (cf. 1 Peter 4:12-14).”

(cf. 1 Peter 4:12-14)

“12 ¶  Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to test you, as though some strange thing happened to you,13  but rejoice to the extent you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when his glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14  If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part, he is evil spoken of, but on your part, he is glorified.”

“Now they were experiencing internal turmoil from false teachers.  Thus, they longed for the return of their Savior—the Judge who would make all things right (cf. 2 Tim. 4:7-8).”

(cf. 2 Tim. 4:7-8)

“7  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. 8  Finally, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who love his appearing.

“As one author explains:

The hope of Christ’s coming was of paramount importance for the early church.  In fact, its certainty was so real that first-century believers would greet one another with the term ‘maranatha,’ meaning ‘Lord, come quickly.’  Instead of being frightened by the possibility, they clung to it as the culmination of everything they believed.  Not surprisingly, the New Testament reflects this intense anticipation by referencing Jesus’ return, whether directly or indirectly, in every New Testament book except Philemon and 3 John. (Nathan Busenitz, Living a Life of Hope [Uhrichsville, Ohio: Barbour Books, 2003], 122).

I believe that I will be able to finish this introduction in tomorrow evening’s SD and then we can go onto look at these very important verses more deeply, as they are some very great verses to look at and study.

PT-3 “The God of Impeccable Justice” (Nahum 1:7-8)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/28/2025 8:14 AM

My Worship Time                                                   Focus:  PT-3 “The God of Impeccable Justice”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                   Reference:  Nahum 1:7-8

Message of the verses:  “7   ×˜‎ The LORD is good,  A stronghold in a day of trouble;  ×™‎ And he knows those who trust in him. 8  But with an overflowing flood  ×›‎ He will make an utter end of its place,  And darkness will pursue his enemies.”

I continue to quote from John MacArthur’s commentary, adding my own thoughts and also adding any verses he writes in his commentary.

“To illustrate the decisive and sudden death of the wicked, the prophet used a vivid poetic construction known as an acrostic, in which each line or stanza of the poem begins with a sequential letter of the Hebrew alphabet in order to advance the message of the author.  Though, acrostics normally run from the beginning to the end of the alphabet, in this passage, the acrostic is suddenly an unexpectedly cut off at the letter kaph, in the middle of the alphabet.  In the same way, Nahum illustrated that God would end Nineveh’s existence abruptly and completely.  One moment the city would exist, and the next, it would be gone.  Thus Nahum continued to reinforce the lesson that God is not only supremely good and gracious but also supremely righteous and wrathful.  While the Lord had in the past shown mercy to the repentant Ninevites, Nahum declared that He would not do so for this generation of impenitent sinners.

“From the ancient Ninevites on to the people in the present day, all humanity has experienced an abundance of God’s mercy and patience (2 Peter 3:4-8).”

“4  and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5  For this, they are willingly ignorant: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water, 6  by which the world that then was, perished, being flooded with water. 7  But the heavens and the earth, which now are kept by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, do not be ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

“However, no one should ever presume upon God’s grace or conclude that the Lord’s wrath against the unrighteous is avoidable.  To those who spurn the thought of divine righteousness and judgment, Nahum’s description of God’s fearsome power serves as a timely warning.  Unless sinners repent, they will perish (Luke 13:3-5; Heb 9:27).”

“3  I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4  Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that these sinners were worse than all men who lived in Jerusalem? 5  I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.’”

“27  And as it is appointed for men once to die, but after this the judgment,”

“As the author of Hebrews rightly observed, ‘It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God’ (Heb. 10:31).  Though the Lord has always demonstrated great patience with sinners, providing them with ample time to repent (2 Peter 3:9), He will one day execute judgment against His enemies, pouring out His wrath suddenly and when they least expect it (cf. Matt. 24:36-41; 1 Thess. 5:2; 2 Peter 3:10).”

(2 Peter 3:9), “9 ¶  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering towards us, not willing that any should perish but that all men should come to repentance.”

(cf. Matt. 24:36-41; 1 Thess. 5:2; 2 Peter 3:10).

“36  But of that day and hour, no man knows, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37  But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of man be. 38  For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39  and they did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of man be. 40  Then two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left. 41  Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.”

“2  For you know perfectly that the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night.”

10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; also the earth and the works in it will be burned up.”

PT-1 "Intro to "The certainty of the Second Coming" (2 Peter 3:1-10)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/27/2025 7:11 PM

My Worship Time                             Focus:  “Intro to “The certainty of the Second Coming”

I begin this evenings Spiritual Diary with one of my favorite passages that are found in the Word of God, and that portion actually begins with verse ten, which we will not get into for a while yet.  I will not begin to quote the introduction from John MacArthur’s commentary, perhaps adding some comments of my own and also will add the actual verses that he makes reference to, which will probably mean that this may take a couple of days to finish this introduction.

            “Jesus Christ is coming back.

“Throughout the centuries, the reality of that wonderful promise has formed the crux of Christian expectation.  It is the church’s blessed hope (Titus 2:11-14), her utmost longing (cf. Rom. 8:23), and the great climax of salvation history (Matt. 25:31-46)—a time of redemption for believers (Eph. 4:30) and a time of judgment for God’s enemies (2 Thess. 2:1-12).”  Now I will quote these verse references in the order that they are mentioned in this rather long sentence.

(Titus 2:11-14)  “11 ¶  For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12  teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present world, 13  looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14  who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself his own special people, zealous for good works.”

(cf. Rom. 8:23)  “23  And not only that, but we also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly awaiting adoption, the redemption of our body.”

(Matt. 25:31-46)  “31 ¶  And when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32  And before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them from each other, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33  And he will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left. 34  Then the King will say to those on his right hand, ‘Come, you blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35  For I was hungry and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; 36  I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37  Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? 38  And when did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? 39  And when did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?’ 40  And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly, I say to you, since as you did it to one of the least of these brethren of mine, you did it to me.’ 41  Then he will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42  For I was hungry and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty and you did not give me a drink; 43  I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked and you did not clothe me; sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44  Then also they will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45  Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, since as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46  And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

(Eph. 4:30) “30  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

(2 Thess. 2:1-12)  “1 ¶  Now, brethren, we ask you, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him, 2  that you not be quickly shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Do not let anyone deceive you by any means; for that day will not come unless a falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4  who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or is worshipped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 5  Do you not remember that when I was still with you, I told you these things? 6  And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7  For the mystery of lawlessness already works; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8  And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of his mouth and destroy with the brightness of his coming. 9  The coming of that lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, and signs and lying wonders 10  and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11  And for this reason, God will send them a strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, 12  that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

Now I realize that there are a lot of verses here to look at, and I believe that it is important to add the verses that MacArthur references in his commentary and that is why I have decided to add them to my Spiritual Diaries.  However it does take me a lot longer to do these Spiritual Diaries but in the end I believe it will be well worth it, and will bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ.
