PT-2 “Their Perversion” (2 Peter 2:20-22)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/23/2025 8:05 PM

My Worship Time                                                                      Focus:  PT-2 “Their Perversion”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                              Reference:  2 Peter 2:20-22

Message of the verses: 20  For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21  For it was better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22  But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “The dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “The sow, that was washed, returns to her wallowing in the mire.”

I begin by quoting the commentary from John MacArthur and then as needed I will put in my comments and then I will also put in the verses he points out in his commentary.

“It is evident that false teachers are not really in Christ because they are again entangled in the world’s defilements and are overcome.  They are not the ‘overcomers’ the apostle John wrote about in his first epistle (1 John 5:4-5) or the book of Revelation (2 :7, 11, 17, 26; 3:5, 12,21).”

“4  For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”

“7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

“11  Let him who has an ear hear what the Spirit says to the churches. ‘He who overcomes will not be harmed by the second death.’"’

“17  Let him who has an ear hear what the Spirit says to the churches. ‘To him who overcomes, I shall give him some of the hidden manna to eat. And I shall give him a white stone, and on the stone, a new name written which no man knows except he who receives it.’"’

“26  And he who overcomes, and keeps my works until the end, I shall give to him power over the nations:”

“5  He who overcomes the same will be clothed in white garments, and I shall not blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I shall confess his name before my Father and before his angels.”

“12  He who overcomes, I shall make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will go out no more. And I shall write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God. And I shall write on him my new name.”

“21  He who overcomes, I shall grant to him to sit with me on my throne, even as I also overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.”

“Since there is no real salvation for them—no grace received to overcome the power of sin (Eph. 1:7), walk by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:12-13; Eph. 2:8-10), and preserve in the faith (Phil. 2:12-13; 2 Thess. 1:11-12)—they sink back into the pollution of the world and completely reject the gospel of salvation.”  Now we will look at all of the verses outlined in yellow in order that they are in above.

“7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace,”

“12  Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may know the things freely given to us by God. 13  These things we also speak, not in words taught by man’s wisdom but in those taught by the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”

“8  For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9  not of works, lest any man should boast. 10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

“12 ¶  Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13  for it is God who works in you both to will and to do his good pleasure.”

“11 ¶  Therefore, we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness and the work of faith with power, 12  that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

“After all, those who understand the truth and still turn away will face far greater judgment than those who have never heard (cf. Matt. 10:14-15; 11:22-23; Mark 6:11; Luke 12:47-48).”

“14  And whoever will not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15  Truly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.”

“22  But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23  And you, Capernaum, who is exalted to heaven, you will be brought down to hell; for if the mighty works which had been done in you were done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.”

“11  And whoever does not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust which is under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.’”

“47  And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself nor do according to his will, will be beaten with many stripes. 48  But he who did not know and committed things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. And everyone to whom much was given, from him much will be required, and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”

Now with all of these verses to read I will stop here and I will put one more SD on this blog before Christmas, and then on Christmas day I have some special SD’s to add to both of my  blog sites, so that means there will only be two Spiritual Diaries then and the next day, Lord willing I will continue with the SD’s that I normally have been writing.  So to one and all I wish you a Christ centered Christmas day.
