PT-1“The Pattern of Judgment” (2 Peter 2:9-10a)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/09/2025/9:25 PM

My Worship Time                                                              Focus: PT-1“The Pattern of Judgment”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                               Reference:  2 Peter 2:9-10a

Message of the verses:  “then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority.”

This evening I begin the last section in this 6th chapter of John MacArthur’s commentary on Peter’s second letter, and I have already stated that 2 Peter, especially the middle verse of this letter is one of my favorite chapters in the Word of God, mostly because of the prophecy that Peter writes about in this second letter he wrote.

Now going back to something we looked at earlier in verse four, Peter began a lengthy conditional clause writes John MacArthur.  “Now, in verse 9 and 10, he provides the conclusion—if (or since) God knew whom to judge and whom to rescue in the past, then He certainly knows how to do the same in the present and future.

“Centuries before Peter’s time, Scripture established God’s pattern of judgment.  The prophet Malachi wrote:

“Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who esteem His name “they will be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.  So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.  For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the Lord of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.  But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like caves from the stall.  You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the Lord of hosts.” (Mal. 3:16-4:3).

“Put simply, the Lord knows how to judge the wicked while simultaneously preserving His own (cf. Matt. 13:36-43; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; 5:1-5).”  I will quote these verses and then Lord willing, I will finish this section in tomorrow’s SD.  They will be done in the order listed above.

“The He left the crows and went into the house.  And His disciples came to Him and said, ‘Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.’  And He said, “the one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the evil one; and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.  So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age.  The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all the stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  THEN THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN IN THE KINGDOM OF THEIR Father.  He who has ears, let him hear.”

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus  For this we say to you by the word of the Lord that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.  For the Lord Himsel will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead  in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive  and remain will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.  Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

“Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.  For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just as a thief in the night.  While they are saying, “Peace and safety!  Then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a soman with child, and they will not escape.  But you, brethren, and not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day.  We are not of night nor of darkness.”
