PT-2 “The God of Impeccable Justice” (Nahum 1:7-8)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/27/2025 9:50 AM

My Worship Time                                                 Focus:  PT-2 “The God of Impeccable Justice”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                  Reference:  Nahum 1:7-8

Message of the verses:  7    ט‎ The LORD is good,  A stronghold in a day of trouble;  י‎ And he knows those who trust in him.  8   But with an overflowing flood  כ‎ He will make an utter end of its place,  And darkness will pursue his enemies.”

This morning I begin to look at the second section on the verses above.

“For those who love the Lord, He will unequivocally stand in their defense as a strong fortress.  But such is not God’s disposition toward unrepentant sinners.  Nahum continued by noting Yahweh’s attitude toward wicked Nineveh:  With an overflowing flood, He was made a complete destruction of its place.  The term flood metaphorically denotes an unstoppable force that covers everything (Ps. 32:6; Prov. 27:4), with the word overflowing describing the magnitude of this torrent.”  I will now quote the verses highlighted above.

“6  For this reason everyone who is godly  Will pray to you  In a time when you may be found;  Surely in the flood of great waters  They will not come near him.”

“4  Wrath is cruel and anger is like a flood,  But who can stand before jealousy?”

“This was precisely how the Assyrian army moved through Israel as it attacked the nation (cf. Isa. 8:6-8), creating a river of destruction.”

“6  “Inasmuch as these people refused  The waters of Shiloah that flow softly,  And rejoice in Rezin and in Remaliah’s son; 7  Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them  The waters of the Euphrates River, strong and mighty,  The king of Assyria and all his glory;  And he will come up over all his channels  And go over all his banks. 8  And he will pass through Judah,  He will overflow and pass over,  He will reach up to the neck,  And the stretching out of his wings will  Fill the breadth of your land, oh Immanuel.”

“Because Assyria treated Israel this way, Nahum prophesied that God would do the same to the Ninevites, raising up a relentless foe to sweep through their capital city.  However, the imagery of the flood was not merely a metaphor.  The Lord would literally level the city with an actual flood (cf. Nah. 2:6).”

“6  (2:7) The gates of the rivers are opened,  And the palace is dissolved.”

“In this way, God will make a complete destruction of its place, bringing the city to its end (cf. Jer. 30:11).”

“11  For I am with you,’  says the LORD,  ‘To save you;  Though I shall make a full end of all the nations  Where I have scattered you,  Yet I shall not make a full end of you.  But I shall correct you in justice,  And I shall not let you go altogether unpunished.’”

“The Lord would further execute His wrath by pursuing His enemies into darkness.  In Hebrew, the phrase His enemies stands at the beginning of the sentence, accentuating God’s total focus on His foes.  With such fixation, the Lord would pursue and hunt down His adversaries until the enemy was eliminated entirely (cf. Exod. 15:9; Lev. 26:7-8).

“9  The enemy said,  ‘I shall pursue, I shall overtake,  I shall divide the plunder;  My desire will be satisfied with them.  I shall draw out my sword,  My hand shall destroy them.’”

“7  And you will chase your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword. 8  And five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.”

“As a result of their destruction, the wicked Ninevites would be plunged into darkness.  God would send them into divine wrath, a darkness felt (Exod. 10:21-23) in eternal judgment (cf. Matt. 25:30).”

“21 ¶  And the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand towards heaven, that there will be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.” 22  And Moses stretched out his hand towards heaven, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. 23  They did not see each other; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.”

“30  And cast out the unprofitable servant into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’”

“Thus, Nahum proclaimed that God would exact justice and achieve vengeance for His people as He propelled His enemies into eternal darkness.”

Spiritual meaning for my Life Today:  Now one of the main purposes that I have in writing and sharing my Spiritual Diaries is to get the gospel out to those around the world, the ones that the Holy Spirit of God leads to reading these Spiritual Diaries.  There is nothing more important in any one’s life than to realize that they are a sinner, born a sinner, and in need of salvation.  God sent His Son into the world, born a baby, who grew up to be the Savior of the world.  So if you are not a believer first of all realize that you are a sinner, born a sinner, then confess this to the Lord, then trust the word that Jesus did for you on the cross as He died in your place.  Ask the Lord into your heart to save you from your sins, and then you will become a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.  This is the greatest gift that you will ever receive.  Tell someone about this so you can be a blessing to someone else.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I trust that the Holy Spirit of God will use these Spiritual Diaries to bring about the salvation of someone who is reading them.  To God be the Glory!!
