Pt.-6 “The God of Irresistible Power” (Nahum 1:3b-6)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/23/2025 9:30 AM

My Worship Time                                                    Focus: Pt.-6 “The God of Irresistible Power”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                Reference:  Nahum 1:3b-6

Message of the verses:  ב‎ His way is in the whirlwind  and the storm,  And the clouds are the dust of his feet.4    ג‎ He rebukes the sea and makes it dry,  And dries up all the rivers.  ד‎ Bashan and Carmel wither  And the flower of Lebanon wilts.5    ה‎ The mountains quake before him,  And the hills melt,  ו‎ And the earth burns at his presence,  Yes, the world and all who live in it.6    ז‎ Who can stand before his indignation?  And who can endure the fierceness of his anger?  ח‎ His fury is poured out like fire,  And the rocks are thrown down by him.”

I will now continue to quote from John MacArthur’s commentary on Nahum, and also put in my own thoughts, along with adding many of the Scripture references that MacArthur adds in his commentary.

“In light of God’s vengeance and omnipotence, Nahum posed two rhetorical questions:  “Who can stand before His indignation?  Who can endure the burning of His anger?’  The answer to both questions is obvious.  No one can stand before His indignation, to survive His wrathful and destructive curse (cf. Isa. 10:5; 13:5; Jer. 10:10).”

“5 ¶   “Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger  And the staff in whose hand is my indignation.”

“5   They come from a far country,  From the end of heaven,  Even the LORD and the weapons of his indignation,  To destroy the whole land.”

“10   But the LORD is the true God;  He is the living God and the everlasting King.  At his wrath the earth will tremble,  And the nations will not endure his indignation.”

“No one can stop or ignited and unleashed (cf. Exo. 32:12; Ps. 1:5).”

“12   Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He brought them out for evil to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce wrath, and relent from this evil against your people.”

“5   Therefore the ungodly will not stand in the judgment,  Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.”

“No one can stop or survive the wrath of God.  Instead, people will ide in the face of His judgment, crying out to the mountains and rocks, ‘FALL ON US AND HIDE US from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great DAY OF their WRATH has come, and who is able to stand?’ (Rev. 6:16-17).

“In addition to these rhetorical questions, Nahum added tow reminders to stress the might of God’s vengeance.  First, the prophet exclaimed, His wrath is poured out like fire,’  God’s burning wrath against sin overwhelms the wicked like a volcano eruption that is poured out from the heavens (cf. Ex. 9:23, 33; 2 Sam. 21:10; Ezek. 22:21), and it spreads like fire, destroying everything it encounters.” (Now we will post the verses which are highlighted above.)

“23  And Moses stretched out his staff towards heaven, and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire ran along on the ground. And the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.”

“33  And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh and spread out his hands to the LORD, and the thunder and hail ceased, and the rain did not pour upon the earth.”

“10 ¶  And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until rain fell upon them from heaven. And she did not allow the birds of the air to rest upon them by day nor the beasts of the field by night.”

21  Yes, I shall gather you and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you will be melted in its midst.”

“Second, Nahum declared, ‘And the rocks are torn down by Him.’  If mountain boulders disintegrate before God’s judgment against Nineveh was impossible to resist or prevent.  Nineveh, which was once shown mercy, should have never thought that it could escape God’s wrath, for God rules heaven and earth with irresistible might.”

Spiritual Meaning for my Life Today:  God never changes and as one looks at His attributes they can see that it is kind of difficult for a human to understand them.  Let me explain; God is love, and that is the attribute that many people think of when they think of God, but God is also just, which means that He has to deal with sin in the lives of people.  God is patience and as one looks at Nineveh we can see these attributes.  God certainly was merciful in sending Jonah to them, and then 100 years later Nineveh became evil like before Jonah was there.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I am trusting the Lord for my wife’s infusion this morning for he cancer treatment, that things will go well.

One more note and that is because tomorrow is Christmas I will post a SD that I wrote years ago for Christmas.
