PT-2 “Their Practices” (2 Peter 2:13b-14)

EVENING SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/15/2025 6:55 PM

My Worship Time                                                                           Focus: PT-2  “Their Practices”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                           Reference:  2 Peter 2:13b-14

Message of the verses: :  as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14  Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children” (KJV)

“They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime,  They are stains and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, as they carouse with you, having eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart trained in greed, accursed children.” (NASB)

I will continue to quote from John MacArthur’s commentary and as I go through his quote I will stop and quote the different verses that he references in his commentary.

“To make matters worse, the false teachers brought their lewdness into the church, purposefully choosing to carouse with the saints.  The word translated carouse (suneuocheomai) means ‘to eat together,’ or ‘entertain together,’ as in a public meal.  Here it may refer to the church’s love feast that accompanied the Lord’s table” (cf. comments on Jude 12a which I wrote earlier in the month.)  “By feigning faith in Christ, the false teachers pretended to have a rightful place at the table.  But in fact the were a polluting influence.  Elsewhere in the New Testament, as a safeguard against such intrusions, the Holy Spirit warns believers to conduct special church means with propriety (1 Cor. 11:20-22), to beware of false teachers who might want to infiltrate them (Matt. 7:15; cf. Acts 20:28-31; 1 Cor. 16:13), and to turn such men away (2 John 9-11).”  Now I will quote all of these verses beginning with 1 Cor. 11:20-22.”

20  When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper. 21  For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. 22  What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

“15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

“28  Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29  For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30  Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31  Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.”

“13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.”

“9  Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11  For he that abideth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”
