PT.-4 "The God of Irresistible Power" (Nahum 1:3b-4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/21/2025 8:01 AM

My Worship Time                                                    Focus: Pt.-4 “The God of Irresistible Power”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                                Reference:  Nahum 1:3b-6

Message of the verses:  ב‎ His way is in the whirlwind and the storm,  And the clouds are the dust of his feet.4    ג‎ He rebukes the sea and makes it dry,  And dries up all the rivers.  ד‎ Bashan and Carmel wither  And the flower of Lebanon wilts.5    ה‎ The mountains quake before him,  And the hills melt,  ו‎ And the earth burns at his presence,  Yes, the world and all who live in it.6    ז‎ Who can stand before his indignation?  And who can endure the fierceness of his anger?  ח‎ His fury is poured out like fire,  And the rocks are thrown down by him.”

I continue looking at this rather long section of Scripture as I quote from John MacArthur’s commentary and then add the verses that he has in his commentary on these verses above.

“Since God’s might is overwhelmingly sufficient to shake the mountains, for Him to cause the hills to melt is not difficult.”  Let me just add something here and that as one looks at the creation in Genesis chapters one and two we read of how God created the world and all of the universe, and the way that He did this was to speak, and that is how powerful He is.  One of my all time favorite verses in the creation passages is something that seems to be an afterthought by the Lord, but I know it is not.  He wrote “And He created the stars also.”  Sometime tonight if it is a clear night go out and look at the stars and then thing of this statement “And He created the stars also.”  Now back to MacArthur’s commentary:  “In Scripture, the hills served as longstanding landmarks for boundaries between regions and cities.  Because of their familiarity and permanence, these ridges were called the ‘everlasting’ hills (Gen. 4926; Deut. 33:15).”

“26   The blessings of your father have prevailed  Above the blessings of my parents,  Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills.  They will be on the head of Joseph,  And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.”

“15   And with the best things of the ancient mountains,  And with the precious things of the everlasting hills,”

“At Christ’s return, even these features, which have always defined the landscape of Israel, will melt away like wax (cf. Ps. 97:5; and Mic. 1:4; Ezek. 21:15).”

“5   The mountains melt like wax in the presence of the LORD,  In the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.”

“4   And the mountains will melt under him,  And the valleys will be split  Like wax before the fire,  And like waters poured down a steep place.”

“15   (21:20) I have set against all their gates  The point of the sword,  That their heart may melt  And may multiply their ruins.  Ah, it is made bright;  It is sharpened for the slaughter:”

“Peter wrote that after Christ’s millennial reign, all the elements of the world will melt away under the intense heat of God’s wrath (2 Peter 3:12).”

“12  looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens will be “dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?”

Now let me make a few comments on this verse from 2 Peter, something that I have written about before, and that is the word in the Greek language that Peter uses for “elements” is stoicheia and that word means “basic building blocks.”  Now think for a moment about what are the basic building blocks of the world and you probably will come up with the word “Atom.”  Now think about what Atoms are and you will come up with something that humanly speaking you cannot figure out how they hold together.  If one has two magnets and you put them together with the positive and negative they will stick together, however put two of the same together like two negative or two positive and they will run away and not stick.  That is what is inside the atoms which hold this world together, and when God destroys the world and all of the universe that is how it will be done, and what you will have is the greatest nuclear bomb ever as the entire universe will be destroyed this way.  But don’t worry God will have created a new heaven, and a new earth and the New Jerusalem where all true believers will dwell for eternity.

Spiritual Meaning for My life Today:  God is and always has and always will be in control.
