Passover was fulfilled in the death of Christ (1 Cor. 5:7; John 1:29)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/9/2016 8:24 PM

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Passover was fulfilled in the death of Christ

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1 Cor. 5:7; John 1:29

Message of the verses:  “7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.”  “29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

In this section Dr. Warren Wiersbe explains some of the OT feasts and how they were fulfilled.  1 Corinthians 15:23 shows us the following “But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming,” and so we see that Jesus Christ is the first fruit and then those who are believers in Him will be at His coming.  Dr. Wiersbe goes on to write “and the week-long Feast of Unleavened Bread in the life of the church today as believers walk in holiness as seen in 1 Corinthians 5:6-8:  “6  Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?   7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. 8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.  Next we look at the fulfillment of the feast of Pentecost in the second chapter of Acts when Peter preached his sermon and the church began with 3000 souls being saved.  Dr. Wiersbe points out that the feast of Trumpets will be fulfilled before the kingdom begins when God regathers His people from the ends of the earth as seen in Isaiah 18:3, 7; and Matthew 24:29-31.  Now in a book that I read a long time ago the author was Jewish and in that book he went through the OT feasts and when he got to the explanation of the Feast of Trumpets he explained that this was a picture of the rapture of the church, and I suppose that because this was the next feast after Pentecost in order and because of the use of Trumpets this does make sense to me.  Dr. Wiersbe then talks about the Day of Atonement and writes that this “will be fulfilled when the nation sees her Messiah, repents, and is cleansed.”

Now in our last SD we spoke about the Feast of Tabernacles and noted that this feast foreshadows the joyful and fruitful Kingdom Age, so it will be celebrated while the kingdom is in progress. Dr. Wiersbe writes that “It will be an annual reminder to the Gentile nations that the bountiful blessings they enjoy come from a gracious and generous Lord.  How easy it is to take our blessings for granted.”  I suppose that if we all take a good hard look at this statement we will come to realize that we in this country have taken our blessings from the Lord for granted and we could see the wrath of God fall upon our nation in ways that we have not seen before.
