The Topography will be Changed (Zech. 14:10-11)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/6/2016 6:43 PM

My Worship Time                                                          Focus:  The Topography will be Changed

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Zechariah 14:10-11

Message of the verses:  “10 All the land will be changed into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; but Jerusalem will rise and remain on its site from Benjamin’s Gate as far as the place of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses. 11 People will live in it, and there will no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will dwell in security.”

Let us begin with a few different verses that seem to go along with these two.  First we will look at Isaiah 2:2 “Now it will come about that In the last days The mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it.”  Now this verse talks about some of the changes in the topography that will be seen in and near Jerusalem after the Lord Jesus returns to planet earth at His second coming.  Jesus speaks in Matthew 24:22 about what is going on during the tribulation period and He does not return when He does that “"Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.”  So we learn from this verse that Jesus will return right at the exact time He needs to in order to save the world from complete destruction, and so when He returns the planet will be in very bad shape.  Here is something else that I think ties into this subject “Re 11:18 “And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.’”  So we see in this verse who it is who is destroying the earth and what the Lord will do with them when He returns.  So we see that Jesus will return at the right time and then He will go about remaking the earth including Jerusalem and the surrounding places around it.  The earthquake that will happen in Jerusalem will have caused changes in it and so it will be lower, that is the land around Jerusalem and then Jerusalem itself will be raised as we see in Isaiah 2:2.  Now there is another place that we have studied that shows that the land will be different after the Lord returns and that is in Ezekiel chapters 40-48 and if you are interested in that you can search for my Spiritual Diaries on those chapters in Ezekiel.  That section does show that Jerusalem will be much larger than what it is at this time, and so we can conclude that the reason it is larger is because that the Lord will make it that way.  Now remember that when God created the earth, the universe and all that it is He did it by speaking so this will be no problem for Him to change the earth back to a similar way it was when He originally created it, and there are some who believe that is what He will do.

We already looked at Zechariah 8:1-3 but since it ties in with our study  here we will look at it again “1 Then the word of the LORD of hosts came, saying, 2  "Thus says the LORD of hosts, ’I am exceedingly jealous for Zion, yes, with great wrath I am jealous for her.’ 3  "Thus says the LORD, ’I will return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts will be called the Holy Mountain.’  Next we look at Micah 4:1-3 “1 And it will come about in the last days That the mountain of the house of the LORD Will be established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills, And the peoples will stream to it. 2 Many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 3 And He will judge between many peoples And render decisions for mighty, distant nations. Then they will hammer their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they train for war.”

One more thing that we need to see and that is that the Lord is going to return as King-Priest according to Zech. 6:9-15 and other Scriptures too, and because of that He will need to have a temple and since we already spoke of Ezekiel 40-48 earlier we need to know that those chapters also talk about the temple that will be built during the kingdom age.  Dr. Wiersbe concludes “Jerusalem will be the most important city on earth and the temple area the most important part of that glorious new city.”
