The Satanic Rejection of Christ's Love (John 13:2)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/17/2016 9:35 AM

My Worship Time                                                  Focus:  The Satanic Rejection of Christ’s Love

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                        Reference:  John 13:2

Message of the verses:  2 During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him.”

As we read verse two we see that the attentions abruptly shifts from what we saw in verse one which was the brilliant light of Christ’s love to the satanic darkness of Judas’s heart.  We can also see from this verse that the devil had already put into the heart of Judas to betray Jesus.  Now we know from other Scriptures that there was prophecy in the OT that someone would betray the Lord Jesus Christ, and that someone we now know is Judas.  In our study of Zechariah chapter 11 we read the prophecy of what Judas would do as he sold the Lord for the price of a slave, 30 pieces of silver, however when we looked at that passage in Zechariah we saw that the Messiah was asking what they were going to pay Him for His service and then we read that they would pay Him 30 pieces of silver and this money would be used for the potter’s field.  Now the point that I want to make here is that Jesus Christ came to earth to preach and teach the children of Israel, and He did this for a little over three years, as He healed the sick, brought the dead back to life, cast out demons from those who had demons, and after three plus years the nation of Israel though that He was only worth 30 pieces of silver for that is what they would give Judas to betray Him, the price of a slave is what they thought He was worth, and that is a sad, very sad commentary.  One may wonder why Judas did this and could say perhaps that because it was prophesized that he would do this that he had to do this, but the truth is that he wanted to do this and that is why he did it.  He, like the other disciples were looking for Jesus Christ to bring in the promised kingdom, the physical kingdom and were disappointed when Jesus would bring in the spiritual kingdom of God, however the others did not go out and betray Him, yes we know that Peter denied he knew Him, but when we get to John 21 we will see that Jesus brings Peter back on board for the work that He had for him to do.

MacArthur writes “The contrast between Christ’s love and Judas’s hatred is stark; the later provides the black backdrop against which the former appears all the more glorious.”

Let us look at John 12:4 “4-6 “But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray Him, said, 5  "Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor people?" 6 Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it.”  Judas was ripe to be picked by Satan to do his bidding in having him betray Jesus, and Judas was more than willing.  MacArthur adds “Although Satan inspired his betrayal of Jesus Christ, Judas was full responsible for his heinous act.  His own evil heard desired the same thing Satan did—Jesus’ death.  Satan and Judas were in complete accord; they were coconspirators in the plot to kill Jesus Christ.  Soon Judas would be under Satan’s complete control (vs. 27) and would carry out his plan to betray the Son of God (vs. 30; cf. Matt. 26:24).”

In our next SD we will be looking again at love as we look at nine verses (3-11) on the shocking revelation of Christ’s love.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  In order for me not to be tempted by Satan I need to keep my Spiritual Armor on and trust the Lord to keep me clean, but if this does happen it will be in Christ’s control as it was when Peter was tempted and fell to that temptation.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I need wisdom from above to continue working on my tasks for the program I am involved in at church.

Memory verse for the week:  (Romans 6:14) “For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”

Answer to yesterday’s Bible question:  “Exodus.”

Today’s Bible question:  “What nationality was Hagar?”

Answer in our next SD.
