SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/10/2016 10:50 PM
My Worship Time Focus: The Lord will exercise Justice
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Zechariah 14:17-19
Message of the verses: “17 And it will be that whichever of the
families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD
of hosts, there will be no rain on them. 18 If the family of Egypt does not go
up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which
the LORD smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 19
This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who
do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.”
We have
mentioned in an earlier SD that the “Feast of Booths” will be the feast that
will be celebrated during the Millennial Kingdom, and the reason that this
particular feast will be celebrated is because all of the other have been
fulfilled.
Zechariah
is saying that all of the nations must send people to celebrate this feast
during the kingdom age, and if they do not send someone there then they will
not get any rain. Now we have mentioned
rain in earlier SD’s as to whether or not there will be rain during the kingdom
age as there is a difference of opinion, but these verses clearly show that it
will rain or at least it will be held back in the event the nations disobey the
Lord by not sending representatives to celebrate the feast of booths during the
kingdom age. When we look at the covenants that the Lord has made with Israel
in the OT, the covenants that had a curse if they did not follow it or a
blessing if they did follow it, then we saw that if they disobeyed the Lord
that Israel would not see any rain, and this happened during parts of the OT. The unconditional covenant about this can be
seen in Deuteronomy 28:22-24.
We do not
want to forget that even though the Millennial kingdom is a time of peace and
blessing, the Lord Jesus Christ will be reigning from Jerusalem and sin will be
punished. Psalm 2:9 says “’You shall
break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.’"” This is a Messianic Psalm. You can also look at Revelation 2:27; 12:5;
and 19:15 for more evidence of Jesus ruling with a rod of iron.
Dr. Wiersbe
concludes by writing about Egypt: “Egypt
is mentioned specifically because that nation especially depended on the annual
flooding of the Nile for irrigation, and without the rains, the river could not
rise. During the time of Joseph, there
were seven years of terrible famine in Egypt.
Also, Egypt had been Israel’s persecutor and enemy, and during the
kingdom, she will enjoy blessing because of Israel’s Messiah. Not to show gratitude would be a heinous sin.”
