PT-3 The Shielding of Israel (Zech. 12:8-9)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/19/2016 12:13 AM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  PT-3 The Shielding of Israel

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Zechariah 12:8-9

Message of the verses:  “8 “In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who is feeble among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the LORD before them.  9 "And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”

As we look at verse eight we see that even the feeble among the children of Israel “in that day” will have the strength to fight like David who was the greatest soldier that Israel has ever had.  Remember what the women were singing “Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten-thousands.”  Having an army filled with people like David will indeed be very helpful for Israel during the tribulation period.

Now we will conclude this SD and this subject by looking at verse nine, and as we look at this verse we will see that all of the nations who have been persecuting the Jews will be judged by the Lord, as God will set about to destroy those who came against Jerusalem.  John MacArthur who comments on the words “will seek” which is translated “will set” in the NASB writes “The term ‘will seek’ is a most interesting Hebrew term.  It is a term that is used of a marksman who bends his bow with his eye focused on the target.  He wants to hit the bullseye and nothing distracts him.  The cup of iniquity is full and God comes in judgment.  Read Revelation 16, read Revelation 19 and se how God begins to come in judgment, how Jesus splits the heavens with His coming, comes in glory and power with a flaming victory at hand with a sword dipped in blood and He comes to conquer.”

He goes on to write “So, in summary, the first nine verses of the twelfth chapter describe prophetically Israel’s great deliverance and the destruction of the armies of the world gathered against her.  That’s political, folks.  The next part is spiritual.  And that brings us to the sorrow of Israel.”  We will begin that in our next SD.
